Part of the reason Lethality is so much stronger than crit right now

Most Crit items are just raw stats that modify auto attacks. All the Lethality items have some kind of passive or active that grants additional effects along side the stats.

Only BorK and Merc Scimitar have actives and are usually built by "crit" adcs, and they're situational.

Zeal items do give some unique effects to autos, but it's still just a bundle of stats for their autos. I know that's what ADCs are supposed to be doing (auto a lot) but that's why casters who don't rely on autos that much for the bulk of their damage (Draven is a bit of an oddity)

Tl:Dr: Less stat sticks, More unique passives/actives for crit items.

Edit: Lethality items are also generally cheaper, especially since Dirk builds out of Longswords while BF Sword is a raw purchase.

Crit is just garbage when games are averaging under 30 minutes

Because they're cheaper and build from Longswords. Forgot to mention that, so edited in.

The only major Utility tied to Crit came from ER. An item that was designed for Caster AD's. But most of the Caster AD's shrugged off those builds for the Armor penentration, because that was the stat that made their spells hit harder. Meanwhile, the ADC's still building ER, are the Utility oriented caster's who still rely mostly on AAs for actual damage.

Speaking of stat sticks, EoN has the problem of being one of those stat sticks, while maintaining a powerful defensive active component. It's stats are too powerful for the active it gives, making it an abuse pickup.

mostly because crit is extremely powerful on it's own. like, it's multiplying AS, AD, and you have bonus crit damage too

I would prefer more thoughtful items for sure but I think crit as a whole is in a funky spot because of how extremely good it is when all the stats come together
