Can we talk about Taliyah Passive?

Alright, so passive abilities are usually what makes a champion feel unique and fun.

Whether it's as simple as Rammus with his interesting Armor-to-damage mechanic or something as crazy and game-changing as an Anivia or Kindred, the passive is usually powerful and unique.

...and then there's Taliyah...

Granted it is unique and in-flavor with her visual and story design but...come on...

A small movement speed buff when next to a wall and out of combat for five seconds?

At best it gets you somewhere a bit faster and then loses all usefulness in combat. Feels pretty bad when your passive is strictly worse than a passive that Miss Fortune gets on one of her abilities as a bonus effect.

I realize that Taliyah's balancing is really difficult because of how much of her "power budget" is used up in her Q, but I really think that this passive needs to be....anything else.

What are your thoughts?
Do you have any ideas for what to change her passive to? Do you think it should stay the same? Will there ever be a Toph Beifong skin for Taliyah? Find out on the next exciting installment of...oh wait...I got carried away

Aren't we forgetting that Taliyah is a roaming champ? The idea behind the passive is to empower her roaming potential. Of course the excution could be better, that the idea. Removing this passive greatly decrease her roam potential without her ult. She can't sit in lane all day because of her worked ground mechanic.

Syndra still doesn't even have a passive before level 9, Zilean doesn't have one if your entire team hits level 18, and Renekton's passive is still 90% "description of his rage meter".

At least Taliyah's passive is nice for roaming.

At least Taliyah's passive relates to her theme (look at her login screen!), and does something. Meanwhile we have Nunu's Visionary.

Several of you have raised the very valid point that, while unimpressive, Taliyah's passive is crucial to her identity as a roaming champion.

I agree that it is more or less balanced and effective from a gameplay perspective, but I can't help but feel that it is incredibly underwhelming at what it does. I like the idea raised of lowering the delay as Taliyah levels up. Personally, I would love to see something that persisted into combat. Perhaps keeping her speed boost as long as she isn't hit? This would reward her elusive and mobile fighting style. Granted, this would probably be a buff even if the speed were lowered overall but.... Come on... That winrate could use a boost anyway

You're claiming Taliyah's passive is boring and you compare it to RAMMUS?! You'll be hard-pressed to find a passive more boring than Rammus's, by comparison Taliyah's is downright amazing.

Even in general, Taliyah has a good passive that aids her in her primary goal in the game (roaming) in an interesting way.

I guess its kind of nice, like the other people said, but it does seem kind of worthless a lot of the time. Maybe, to fit with her whole "not toph" thing, she could get bonus armor/mr near terrain too, as she brings rock armor (definetly not like toph did) to defend herself. It could work in combat, too, for some nice survivability.

Taliyah's passive is actually extremely beneficial to her kit. She's a roamer, and it's crucial for setting up quickly for her ultimate. It feels a little underwhelming, but late-game it's probably one of the best speed multipliers in the game. It ends up as 40% of Taliyah's movement speed, whereas MF's is only a flat 100 at max rank. Taking into account the movement speed granted by her worked ground, it's all pretty useful to her kit.

Not all champions need massively show-y or constantly present passives anyways. Think about Heimerdingers and Kayle's passive. Heimerdingers passive is not really noticeable, but without it, his kit wouldn't function nearly as well as it does. It keeps his turrets and his playstyle alive.

Kayle's passive really isn't anything special and to be honest not really that noticeable. But it's 100% what makes her into the DPS Defense-shredding Queen she is.

Heck even Nasus and Morgana's passives, which are just free Lifesteal and Spell Vamp stats, are crucial to their playstyles, without being always noticeable.

It's also pretty useful to dodge skillshots. I had one use their passive to dodge my Q as Xerath

Petition to rename her passive to useless

@topic I think if it were JUST out of combat it would be a lot better and more interesting... the wall mechanic makes it seem like shes a wannabe jungler.

I do remember that from the first time I saw Taliyah's announcement. "Man, that's an underwhelming passive". I still am kinda bothered as well from the fact that her ultimate does no damage whatsoever on collision, I mean, it's a godamn rock avalanche.

Hige2/27/2017, 3:53:44 PM1 votes

I think that her passive is thematically awesome and it's balanced properly on her... that said, it is a bit lackluster, it kinda reminds me of eve's old passive that made her take less damage from minions and towers... it's incredibly powerful but... it's just that :S

I think they should add something to Taliyah's passive that interacts with her worked ground, maybe even removing worked ground inherent movement speed and allowing Taliyah to used worked ground to proc her passive.

Is this the thread where we pretend like out of combat movement speed is bad on roaming heroes.

hhhmmmm yes very yes it looks like quinn ult is the very bad its just a big mobi boots for 100 mana costs wtffffffffffffff

Rindin143/2/2017, 1:48:13 AM1 votes

They should really increase the incentive for actually hitting someone with the wall. Either harder cc or some damage would allow for an interesting choice between the riskier option of aiming right at them or the safer option of being sure you actually wall them in.

Idea. Taliyahs passive is changed to stone weavers Deliverance. when her health hits 30% Taliyah is granted a spinning wall of rocks, (kinda like hr lore, but I bet you guys forgot that) basically 3-7 stones based on the number of worked grounds. minimum 3 maximum 7 that grant a scaling shield of 60-260 per rock. after 13 seconds she is refunded 8% missing health and 70 mana per rock not destroyed. they also apply an on hit slow of 35%. have to have at least 3 worked grounds in the area for her passive to activate thus no need for a cooldown? I think it makes her a little more combat heavy and if you wanna leave the wall run thing too ok but that's useless on its own. Seriously Riot can we talk about this?

Her passive is almost fine, but imo should be buffed.

With each level of R, the passive cooldown shoukd be reduced to 4, 3, 2 seconds respectively, and she should be able to keep surfing farther from walls with each level of R.

Also let her use her passive on worked ground.

±o this riot and we have a deal
