Yorick Followup?

It's been a while since the Yorick rework. Is anyone at Riot still looking after him? If so, what are your thoughts on where he is now?

Based on the statistics that I have read on fan sites, he only has one role (top) and his play rate is rather low, trailing off to 0.3%-0.4% recently (sometimes as low as 0.1%) according to Lolking. He's listed as 0.8% to 1% pick rate overall, but his play rate seems to have consistently dwindled since the hype of the rework. He had around 1-1.5% pick rate 2 years ago, when he was generally considered forgotten, based on old stats I can dig up. His winrate is really unstable due to the tiny sample size, so some sites show him with decent winrates but most seem to show him as below average (but not absolutely horrible).

He also still hasn't received any new skins, presumably because his low popularity makes him a poor candidate when considering the return on investment for potential skin sales. He is the oldest champion in the game to have only 3 skins. This might also be because creating reskins for his minions would require additional work compared to most champion skins.

I used to play a lot of Yorick, maining him for about a year and a half (still my highest mastery champion by far), but I have essentially abandoned him since the rework. I personally really, really miss the utility and flexibility of his old ultimate revenant + pseudo-revive... I have suggestions for what type of changes could bring back some of Yorick's old player-base if anyone is interested. I personally think he needs more strategic flexibility and more than one viable role. I'd like to see his jungling (he was played in LCS as jungle) work again as well as his old support off-role (it was never meta but it used to be more viable).

It would be nice to have a casual discussion about Yorick just to bounce ideas back and forth between the developers and community. Even if the resources aren't currently available to make follow-up changes to Yorick, it would still be nice to at least know that someone at Riot is looking after this champion and his playerbase.

He's big, ugly, doesn't have easy poke or ranged cc, isn't a cute girl and isn't an edgy ninja. He's a modest character with a modest appearance and a modest in-game presence as a solid and well-functioning laner with a smattering of resources in his kit for a little of everything.

People are always fascinated. OMG, AHRI HAS SUCH HIGH PICK RATE OMFG MUST BE BROKEN!

Riiight... couldn't be a fuckin' thing to do with her massive tiddiez and the fact that she's a fox girl, huh? It also helps that she has poke, high mobility, great CC and still cranks great damage.

I realize not every champion can have an exceptionally high pick rate in a game with 130+ champions. If every champion had an equal pick rate, it would balance out around 7.5% each considering 10 champions per game unless factoring in mirror matched blind pick games. I personally don't want to see Yorick with 10%+ pick rate. I'd be perfectly happy if he had a healthy 3-4% pick rate total, 2% top, 0.8% jungle, 0.2% support.

That didn't stop half her Playerbase from dropping her after they Reworked her into an assassin. How the champion feels to play definitely has a big determining factor. Hence why she is considered OP now

Hm. Interesting. Unfortunately, I don't think those QOL changes are aimed at helping Yorick's off-roles which are what I am personally more interested in.

I think that his mistwalkers aren't very well suited to either jungling or supporting as-is. Better control over them would go a long way. Right now, his mistwalkers have a tendency to run off down a lane when Yorick needs them to help clear camps or wants to hold onto them for a better ganking opportunity. It would probably be better if their default behavior was to follow Yorick and only attack what he attacks, unless if he sends them somewhere with his E. I think that if he uses E, they should automatically go to the destination target and begin behaving like lane minions, attacking any visible enemies and walking down the lane. After 2 seconds after the E cast, they should return to following Yorick if he comes within 600 units of them and they have no immediate enemy targets that they are aggro'ed onto.

I have some ideas for small tweaks to his abilities as well. I think his Q should be balanced around a large heal early on with a long cooldown early on, scaling into its current final heal and cooldown after maxing it out. I think his early passive ghoul spawn rate should be increased (possibly changed to a flat rate) to compensate for the reduced number of early Qs. I think his W should provide some sort of effect/debuff on trapped units (reduced resistances?) so that he can use it to help him clear jungle camps. I'd like to see some utility on his ultimate like he used to have and/or more control over it (I enjoyed controlling two champions and it made it feel like his skill cap was higher). I would personally really like it if his lady of the mist sacrificed herself to pseudo-revive a teammate if they die nearby, but I understand that suggestion is probably a huge long-shot and would require power-budget adjustments.
