Support being unpopular is obvious, but it surprised me when teambuilder got going how ADC is the second least popular role. I wonder if it's the pressure to do well or the "reliance" on another teammate, which doesn't make that much sense since you can still do well with a bad support (not as easily, but you could), when a support won't get anywhere without a good ADC.

On a similar note, it seems the most popular roles are always top and mid, implying that solo lanes where you aren't forced to rely on anyone (jungler has the lanes, adc has support and vice versa) are more desirable.

Been playing mostly ADC for a while, my take on it is that there is such an emphasis on perfect mechanics and positioning for ADCs, where a lot of other roles can get away with a lot more. You also have a giant target on your back since you're viewed as your teams main DPS source, and are expected to be your teams main DPS source, hence the emphasis on perfect positioning and mechanics. Basically it isn't much fun when the entire enemy team will dive and tunnel vision on you.

The giant target is probably one of the bigger reasons for the lack of ADCs. Rare is the time when I could even get 3 attacks off in a big team fight before dying in seconds, and it's never fun being dead.

Yea, part of the reason I'm waiting for Tristana's popularity to fall off before I start playing her again; I'd have J4's dive past two turrets just to ult me. It was pretty annoying.

You totally can do well with a crappy ADC as support. Just have to play the right supports.

I'm shocked less people want to jungle!

You can, but it's more difficult than most people would be able to pull off.

I too am surprised at the unpopularity of jungle, especially with the presence of item 3160 giving even them the ability to carry, not to mention all those lanes making the enemy low so you can swoop in and get free kills!

As a jungle main I can shed some light on this. The first reason is the inherent difficulty of jungling, made more so by the addition of trinkets making vision FAR easier for lanes, making ganking exceedingly difficult at times. The biggest reason I feel is how thankless the role is. As the jungler you have the largest influence on the map as a whole. Unfortunately this makes you the scapegoat of league. If things go well, your laners tend to take the credit, if they go poorly you suddenly have four pissed off people pointing fingers at you. I think the general thought process becomes "Why should I play this difficult position if I'm just going to get blamed for everything? I think I'll stick to a solo lane."

In my mind it was the instances of trying to gank and initiating but then your teammates not following up, but I suppose the things you mentioned would be much more common. Heck, I had one game where my top was saying how he couldn't leave lane because of a lack of ganks, when the I, the jungler, was busy scrapping around mid and bot!

It's the opposite. A good support can simply dominate the lane if against an incompetent support.

This is a little misleading.

Lots of people, myself included, search for support/marksman bot, whereas people search for all different roles in the jungle. Look at the 3rd and 4th choices - they're both jungle - but jungle doesn't appear as the top choice because it's split into more different groups.

I think they should change this feature to show in demand positions, then within each position, show in-demand roles.

As an aside, I've also seen [Marksman | Jungle] pop up under the in-demand roles, so I'm not sure that it's a staight-up, "What is the most demanded role?" calculation.

Due to limitations, only complete [lane/role] pairings are displayed.

Jungle/Any may be the most in demand, but since it's not a specific role, it doesn't show up on the main page. Bot lane shows up because every team is looking for them (putting Any causes problems) and they are generally not as popular as solo lanes.

In my experience, jungler is significantly less popular than both ADC and support.

I find it varies somewhat. Sometimes you're waiting 10 minutes for support, sometimes jungle. Heck, one time it was ADC. But top and mid? You can practically pick and choose!

I love support, and I would gladly support. The real issue is getting players who come even close too my skill level. Whats the point in supporting if your team cant do their roles right. Might as well go a carry position, do the job properly.

Tuss1 votes

This is what I imagine going through most players heads. Why bother relying on your team when you can single handedly snowball your lane and carry for the win?

scaleblue1 votes

Idk about that, I dont even need allies who will snowball and carry the game. Give me a plat ADC who places their trinket more then once.

ADC must be really OP, right?

lol.

This is not a reliable statistic, while I'm not saying it's wrong you have to take into consideration that the disparity in team builder is magnified significantly by the fact that supports/adc mains can reliably get the role they want in both draft and blind, so they don't even bother dealing with the extra team builder queue time.

Well, support and marksman are 2 of the most flat role in the game. They need experience , mechanics, and are quite fun, sure, but they have huge drawback in flexibility-

Support is pigeon-holed into buying a support item and then has to make-do with a huge gold gap with his teammates and enemies, and while it's true that support utility compensates for they lack of gold, is also true that building is part of the fun of playing league, optimizing your items against the enemy strategy. The supports have a limited choice in this regard as they have less gold. (HINT: No one lets you harvest the spoils of war after level 9, and that's a scientific fact).

For marksman the itemization is now broader that before, but still, there aren't that many difference between how you play an AD caster (Lucian, Varus, Graves) or how you play a pure AD carry (Ashe, Kog'Maw, Vayne). And, as others have mentioned, the adc is the priority target in teamfight, and you never have the warrant of a team that will at least try to protect you.
