Pros: Maining a champ: -more expertise -you don't have to waste time deciding which champ to play -Can play the champ in different lanes

Maining a role: -more champions you can play -not confined to one lane. If you are ADC main and have to play top, you can play quinn top. -you will have champs to play regardless of who they ban -can pick up new champs easier. i can pick up new assassin champs really quickly because I'm an assassin main.

Cons: maining a champ: -they might ban that champ -you might get a role you can't play that champ in

maining a role: -less expertise

you know matchups in and out, you dont need to think about what youre doing in game because your muscle memory takes a lot of the job so you can focus more on actualy decisionmaking etc. (just to clarify what more expertise is IMO)

Cons: maining a champ: -they might ban that champ -you might get a role you can't play that champ in

youre absolutely fucked when people know you (in intern matches, custom games, tournaments, high diamond ranked) also that champ might not fit your team or be weak against the enemy lane/team

maining a role: -less expertise

if you get forced to play something else youll most likely not be able to win lane, and youll probably not know what to do all the time.

well, if you main a role you can probably play your role at any lane. like if your adc main you can also play quinn top, varus mid etc

well maining a role doesnt mean beeing able to play EVERY champion in that role. Im adc main and i cant play varus or quinn.

also varus midlane has a vastly different playstyle.

right now im not even considering myself a real adc "main" since i pretty much fill between adc support and jungle every game, and a little bit of top, but back when i was only playing adc i was able to

not feed

the other lanes. not beeing able to play them better certainly is a downside IMO

Actually pro's. get higher elo faster than if you play all of the roles

con's. Only learn said champion not the game once you stay stuck you will probably be stuck for a long time hinders growth as a player

also maining a role doesnt really give you much either, your assassin theory doesnt really work if anyone understands the concept of what an assassin is suppose to do you should be able to play it. If you actually want to get good at the game in general and not just be stuck somewhere play 3 champions for every role just in case but have multiple roles you are really good at. for example i can play mid/jungle/adc at a diamond level but if you give me support or top i drop to a platinum level

thats actually not always true. valkryn for example got challenger by filling only.

Actually, support is fairly popular gold+. That role brings a lot of power without relying on perfect CS, and teammates are more reliable at those tiers when you go about making plays.

player knows how to actually play the game or he got carried by the other players getting their roles. probably a little mix of each. I personally just fill because i can carry or be carried on almost every role and feel comfortable on it so it works for me. But most of the time the one trick pony will understand their champion so much more than the other players that they will get to diamond/challenger on that champion but have low win rates on everything else (hashinshin, irelia carrys u)
