I have no idea why I am losing with nocturne.

I hate to be one of "those guys" who blames their team, but it seems uncanny that literally every game I play with Nocturne, either my team feeds and no matter how hard I try to carry, it is impossible to carry the team after every enemy carry is fed pre-6, or someone AFKs.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. is it my build? How should I be playing if only I am ahead or only 1 lane is not feeding?

Try building either item 3715 or item 3711

item 3053 is a good defensive item on him.

when you gank, try to give the kill to the lanner, but if you feel they won't be able to get the kill, secure it yourself

instead of penetration runes, try attack damage ones

and get a bit CDR with your blue runes.

also, get into the ferocity tree, you'll need the damage.

I tried red smite. I can't stay on people to get my fear off. I haven't tried ward but I'll try it out.

Sterak's seems too gold inefficient with no resistances. Kinda risky. I've also tried Ferocity instead of Resolve but then I can't even clear the jungle safely. The extra damage comes out to be ~5 or so early game so I don't even bother and just go for safety. I'm not having trouble late game.

It is probably your play style. If you are ahead at all it should be easy to take a win during late game with Nocturne. Just ward up really well and once someone is out of place that you can just blow up go ahead and ult them and take them down forcing a 4v5. Just make sure you don't ult unless you know for sure that the person you are going for is alone and easily killable.

You don't need level 6 to gank as Nocturne. His level 3 is pretty strong. Sometimes if you catch the enemy out of position you don't even need the fear to secure a kill. Early game vs Lee Sin I usually just counter jungle and keep vision on him so I can counter gank. If you keep up with Lee as Nocturne early game you'll destroy him mid game. You also should be able to out farm a Lee pretty hard so if he is a little ahead from ganks you should have that gold difference back with CS. I'm usually almost at 80 CS when enemy Lee's are near 30ish.
