Unpopular Opinion, but does Athene Unholy grail's needs to come back to mages?

I mean we mages gave that item to supports and yet they don't build it. Can we just have it back? As a Defensive mana regen items with a new passive?

I build it all the time. It was replaced by mages first with Morellos, and now Morellos has been replaced by Ludens Echo. It's not supposed to be a mage item anymore, it's for support.

Athene's is a niche item now. It's only good on supports who build heavy mana regen through items like Redemption and Ardent Censor, so it converts some of that into AP for them. Naturally, not all supports want to build it if they're going with a more aggressive build or don't use shields or heals effectively.

Yeah i don't really think i would ever bother building into that, it used to be really op item but these days i need to build other items instead. [sg-soraka]

It works just fine for the supports it's meant for. Sona, Karma, hell, even Lux uses it sometimes. When you actually get her to buy support items, that is.

Lux can offer more to her team building Eye of the Watcher and then going full AP than she can building pure utility. Her AP scalings are much better than her pure supporting capabilities, so she's going to contribute more to the game if she's poking really hard and setting up kills in the lane than she will be occasionally throwing a shield at you.

I do understand his reasoning a little bit. Currently the new ludens is very lackluster for artillery mages. This is the reason why Lux is massively buffed but also the reason why Xerath is building tear and ziggs and vell'koz have seen less play. Currently it's still ok but just wait a little bit longer when the waveclear changes hit live and this is going to blow up. If clearing waves is going to become harder artillery mages that suppose to be picked for dealing with that sort of thing will be pushed out the game.

I'd like it if the passive could work on self-healing effects

So if you have stuff like item 3010 or item 3146 or Ravenous-Hunter it'll spend its charges to heal you for an equal amount.

Well if you plan on stacking any AP item that gives you Mana Regen . It's a weaker version of archangel staff same concept but different. That's why supps build it because you build that AP frost Queens, ardent censor, redemption and that's pretty good amount of AP off the passive
