Legit question, Why not have abilities scale with lethality?

It seems to be a solution to the shenanigans but I have a feeling that it's a bad idea, and I'm not sure why. Best I can guess is that it's gonna be like having a certain set of items for each class, and that would ruin build experimentation etc... Explain it to me

because they already indirectly do

Because lethality isn't actually a true combat stat for a champion (such as ad, ap, health, armor, or mr). Instead, it is something that MODIFIES a combat stat (essentially lowers a targets armor while you hit them).

Xayah with crit

and it's stupid as fuck, who would have thought

yeah but at least it prevent her to go lethality (maybe).

I was confused by this so I went through her champion page and I now understand why her E does all of your health.

Her E itself can't crit though (its damage scales with crit ofc, but it can't crit on top of that). It doesn't double dip into the stat like a lethality scaling ability would.

I personally don't like it when champions scale with certain specific stats. It forces a build path onto some champions who just don't see the income to actually maintain the effectiveness before the super late game.

you could have like one champion, like xayah and ashe scale with crit, but as a general class it would kinda kill build diversity.

We kind of did that with old Duskblade. It was shit and almost no one built it.

I also thought about abilities scaling with lethality in terms of utility instead of more damage. For Example: Zed the slow on his E.

Wow that's actually a great idea, a smaller way of implementing lethality scaling

Talon W slow maybe his Q range? or maybe his ult radius? that would be pretty cool.

I was was thinking similar things with Talon and possibly his R's movement speed.

Why have abilities that can scale with AD? It's not impossible, but it shifts how items are made around the concept. If no skills had AD scalings unless with an autoattack, then item 3071 would have much heavier stats on it, moreso than the heavy buffing that would be required of AD items across the board, because the stats on it wouldn't commonly cross-utilize champions (few champions could use both the AD and the CDR, as autoattack utility is limited).

Lethality would be a similar story, except on an item group that already has a bored out, limited niche. If this is a crack on Lethality items being more effective on ranged champions than melee, there's actually an easy way to fix that: increase the Lethality, drop the AD. ADCs naturally have lower AD values, so the spiked AD values on the items make it a HUGE improvement for them, and less for champions who rely on their base damages. The sad thing is that these items are supposed to be tailored to AD casters, but they couldn't be better suited for ADCs. Dropping AD on the items would be huge toward maintaining the intended audience. They've already done so for AP champions (MPen comes with somewhat minor amounts of AP, if any), but for some reason not so much on AD.

IMO lethality is a snowball stat. It's not something you get when your behind, but rather when your ahead and can be oppressive. Adding lethality as a scaling increases how snowbally/ oppressive a champion is, or can be. & leads to more of a feast or famine complex.

Because all physical damage abilities scale with lethality, and there are only three items with lethality

Abilities that do physical damage do scale with lethality though. Just like abilities that do magic damage scale with magic pen.

I don't get this thread... it already exists. Unless of course you mean that ALL abilities (even magic damage) scale with lethality, which I guess would be interesting.

Catastrophic1 votes

No but I mean, actual scalings with lethality. So an ability would be: "Deals 50 + 50% AD +200% lethality in physical damage" Which looks insane, but not if you put less lethality into the game, OR you make items that give lethality give less AD

Jaygo411 votes

Sounds like a serious double dip, as it will do more damage because of lethality, then do MORE damage because of lethality. The lethality increases its damage directly and then reduces their armor, thereby allowing the ability to do more damage.

Catastrophic1 votes

Yea but that opens up stuff like "deals 30 +50% AD +150% Lethality. And then you tune down the amount of lethality in the system so auto attackers are less inclined to buy it

i kinda missed the lethality interaction duskblade had where the damage was based on total lethality
