"We’ll also track both single and position ranks so we can switch between them as needed"

/dev: Position Ranks in 2019 - Nexus

That's a quote from Riot on their latest post about the currently planned ranked system for 2019. So here's my question, if this system gets implemented, why can't we have a solo(overall) rank along with the positional ranks permanently? If you're doing that for the first split of the season, the tech's already there. So why can't we keep an overall rank with this new system? I know I'd be much more willing to give the planned system a fair chance if I knew I was keeping my overall rank no matter what happens

What is the "Overal" point though? Where does it apply? The thing that matters is what rank you are on the specific role you are playing in the given game.

They might keep both tbh. It would be a good for team comp at least, to say "I'm Plat in general but a diamond level adc but a silver jungler" and hav your teammates be able to instantly confirm that.

my question is whether or not it's going to pair challengers who can build whatever they want on a bad role and still do well with lower ranks and etc

there have been videos in the past of this exact problem where instead of a traditional role, they use what they are better with in an off position and make it work for them

for instance, sion or illaoi in mid-lane. I've used the latter there and it's quite fun, or was

theoretically though, this might increase pick diversity. Who knows?
