Any General Tips For Winning?

I've dropped like G5 to S4 in like 2 weeks time and I'm not even sure what it is exactly that I'm failing at. I get big kda's in most of my games but still later on if I make that one mistake my team gets obliterated. I feel like I'm missing on some important basic rules that's making me lose games. I don't usually understand how our team comp should be playing the game. I don't think I'm always picking the right heroes for matchups (don't have enough heroes either). Any tips right now would be nice I'm trying to figure out what I need to be focusing on. I'm guessing it's not getting ganked too easily, map awareness, and how to team fight

If you aren't in a position to carry the game, identify an ally who is and assist them.

If you are in a position to carry (i.e. fed), use your advantage to snowball your allies and take objectives.

These two alone should be capable of carrying you rather far.

KDA distracts you from what league is, an objective game. This isn't a team death match. A kill gained just for your KDA isn't really bringing you closer to winning the game. If you're bot focus on getting the tower and then just taking Herald and use it mid/top, if you can kill even just one or two people before using it you're basically guaranteed to get all 3 mid towers and even an inhibitor with Herald. If you're top try soloing it, if you jungle it's easy to solo it too, mid just roam a lot and pressure towers. It's even possible to win right off of Herald too. Focus on stacking dragons and only fight over an objective or when you have to. Randomly dying in the jungle to get nothing doesn't contribute to winning.

First, make sure you won't feed, then work on carrying.
