Allow us to buy champions in Champ Select

Shroom Junkie··39 votes·2,566 views

I have like 10K IP stored up and gaining because I don't know which of the like 3 guys I want to buy, I should. I keep finding openings to make that decision in Champ Select but, sense I can't buy it, it doesn't really work out. I mean, we can buy skins in Champ Select. Why not Champs?

EDIT: As for people buying champs and playing first-time in Ranked, they can just make it for normals, TT, and Dominion.

As for champs not being available to ban, and then people buying them after... well, you could just buy it beforehand. I mean, they're replacing Draft for this Team Draft anyway, right? So you can fill and then get, say, ADC role, and then buy that Draven over that Gnar you've been wanting so its just decided for you.

I just want to be able to edit rune pages in champ select...

But then you wouldn't have to buy rune pages.

I already own all the rune pages and have them filled. Sometimes I find a comp that I want to change my runes slightly to play with/against.

Riot should make it so if you have all 20 rune pages you can edit them in select just like masteries.

Transgressor1 votes

I found making pages that contribute to many champions highly efficient. Then I have like a small bunch of them for the specialized stuff for my mains.

I sacrifice variety for the sake of specialization on the champions I'm more likely to win with.

i'm dont remember quite well, but i think that in season 1 to season 3 (i stopped playing league a little bit after lizzandra and aram were released and i returned when ekko was in his first free week) you were able to edit rune pages during champ select

Then buying rune pages would be useless. You could just keep editing one page every gameThey want income Riot is greedy

How dare a company charge optional micro-transactions to help ensure continued financial stability and growth?!

But this is something that affects players in game. Skins don't.

They give people free champion rotations, you get all of the mastery pages, and they give you two rune pages. AD and AP can get you pretty far. Grind out 6300IP and buy a rune page. The game is free to play they can't give you ways around paying for eveyrthing, they've given us all but two:

  • Changing runes
  • Skins

We do however get these completely free, not including time and effort: Champions Runes Masteries ALL Mastery Pages Free week champion Rotations No 20-30% in Exp reduction when leveling while preferred/premium players get 120% Exp because League of Legends is Free to play and not subscription based.

League is literally like an artist, they're paid on commission and that comes from Skins, Exp boosts, Ip boost, and if you're not patient Champions and Rune pages.

Honestly there isn't really enough time to edit a rune page in champ select unless your 3rd pick or above and you know what runes you want to get. But anyways. If you do have time: Its for those scenarios when you end up playing a champion you didn't expect. You can adjust your runes accordingly and have a better chance at not losing early game

It would have to be pre ban phase since they can only ban champions the other team owns.

Otherwise technically my team could que up wait till after bans buy an op champ we didn't have and pick it. Then refund after game and repeat.

Not saying it's likely or realistic but could happen.

oh wow, that explains a lot. I always thought that there was just a small number of unbannable champs each game so that nothing could be truly "perma" banned.

TurquoiseYoshi4 votes

Yeah, it's just so that you don't ban something completely worthless, or, worse, something only your team can use.

Lol, no xD

Daedalus8713 votes

Or Riot could make it so that you have to ban from all champions, and not just the ones that they own.

I mean, most games you have to ban from 95% of the champion's anyways.

Stand Alone Wolf3 votes

That's assuming you'd want to waste your given refunds for a single game.

ThePartyLeader1 votes

Like I said, not likely or realistic, but nonetheless possible.

You'd only be able to refund it 3 times, and either way if its an OP champ I doubt it would be unowned by anyone else.

Not to mention with the new Team Builder Draft you could do that, just buy the champ before hand if you fill and get one of those roles.

Not only no, but HELL NO! I don't want some ass clown on my team playing a champion that he has never played before.

I can see making it in bots, but that's it.

Why only bots? Why not norms? People are obviously going to play new champs in norms anyway. Why not let us buy it there?

Lugg1 votes

I understand where you are coming from. However, the way it's supposed to work is this:

Buy champ. Take champ against bots to learn the mechanics of the new champ. Go to normals to hone those mechanics and skills. Go to Ranked and dominate with that champ.

Not really. Bots teach nothing. Its good to practice CS'ing and blowing off some steam but, its not good for learning specific champs.

Taarki1 votes

What happens if they buy the champion 2 seconds before he queues up and plays that champion? He just played a champion that he has never played before.

Lugg1 votes

Yeah, that does happen, but if you allow them to do it during champ select, you are encouraging that type of behavior.

King Odin1 votes

You can't buy champs because then some people may buy a champion in ranked just because it counters their enemy champion. This would lead to someone without any actual knowledge of the champion to play/perform poorly.

Okay, then make it only in normals.

King Odin1 votes

I wouldn't see a reason why not for normals :)

Taarki1 votes

They can do the same thing by buying a champion before ranked and playing it in ranked as their first game with the champion.

King Odin1 votes

counters their enemies champion

Not the same thing.

Taarki1 votes

The point wasn't the ability to counter the champion, it was that it would be the players first time playing a champion, which can happen anyways without this feature.

kaltenashes1 votes

so you wanna buy and do where do people go to buy? to the store XD

really i dont even know why they allow to purchase skin (wait i think i know why)

the only thing they HAVE to add there (in my opinion) is editing rune pages, i got 6 and i dont wanna buy more for the same champ just to be situational counter pages

Blue Mystified1 votes

No, no this one actually doesn't seem as possible. buying skins is because of the impulse factor- buying champs in select would be difficult to organize (you'd see every champion always? and the ones you have would be highlited i guess.. a bit confusing to accidentally click and have to deal wtih "buy this champ?) I think buying champions should remain a premeditated action approached before the games so that you have an idea; if you buy udyr 15 seconds until lock in you really won't have much time to figure out what he's about in the minute of loading screen. just my opinion :)

Well, I assume people would only buy what they wanted. If they were just going for buying everything they could they wouldn't have to choose, but it would be like a "I don't know what to buy, so I'll buy whatever I need first" kind of thing.

Only Play Darius1 votes

Would have to be removed from ranked. Except for the champions so easy to play you can actually do fine with them in your first game like Sona Heimerdinger Garen Vladimir Volibear Jinx

This feature should be available in Season 6 with the New Champ Select. This comment specifically relates to buying Champion & Ward skins, so I don't see a reason for them to leave buying champions out.

{quoted}

Yes! This is a feature we're still working on, but didn't finish by the first PBE release.

The New Champ Select will be available for all maps / modes so you can buy them no matter where you queue up. As for buying champions in Ranked, I'd imagine they'd disable it for Ranked SR & TT.

MAestRIO1 votes

I asked myself the same thing this afternoon. Because I wanted to buy a skin, but I couldn't cause I didn't have the champion... So I would've used IP for the champ and RP for the skin.
