Great, now leona is getting weird nerfs/changes too

S@20 for details.

So her passive is going to do less damage. Her Q is going to do less damage and stun for less time. Her W's damage is getting lowered but she's getting a weird auto attack buff.

Does riot not even look at numbers when they make a change. Leona builds zero attack speed items and I don't think she gets AS runes. So riot is compensating these damage nerfs with the ability to have 4 AAs that do bonus damage. However in the perfect case scenerio, leona won't be able to proc all 4 uses. If she's behind, she'll get blown up even if she did build AS to proc all four. Still, why is leona getting a change that makes a tank want to build AS to deal damage?

Doing the math, she loses 120 damage from her passive (with her AoE skills and team fights it's hard to tell exactly) and potentially more, 30 more from her shield, 200 from her eclipse (50 damage x 4 champs hit) so she can get 180 damage on her AAs because she's not building AS.

If you wanted her W to give her 3 attacks, then make it for 3 and not the mythical 4 she's not getting. If you want her to be more AA focused or self reliant then let one of her skills give her passive on hit magic damage and maybe give her a new passive. If riot was trying to shift damage away from her passive, they didn't need to nerf her damage skills along with it. If this is riot encouraging her to build AS or damage items, I can tell you now it's going to fail.

I don't get it. I seriously don't get what's going on at riot. If she needs a nerf, why get funky about it? If you want to make her be able to jungle, this isn't it. If you want her to go top, this isn't it. This isn't just a nerf, this is a nerf plus weirdness. Nerfs can be fine. When a champion is overpowered, they are good even. However this is befuddling.

fun fact: Leona's Q is an auto reset that also shortens the timer on the following attack, allowing Leona to get three auto attacks within a short amount of time more facts: Leona's W makes her super tanky, Leona has a ton of cc that makes sticking to targets easy, W's passive increases her auto attack range, and NONE OF THESE NUMBERS ARE FINAL.

So when playing leona, you always wait for the damage from her W to go off before you press Q for the first time? I've stopped playing her but I never remember waiting a full 3 seconds before I hit the stun.

It's always wise to space out Leona's abilities to maximize her passive procs, it's going to be especially true when you get that movespeed allowing you to stick to targets so locking them down with an instant-stun overlapping your snare isn't as good as the alternative.

Did you miss the part where when her passive procs her and the ally that proc it gain a bonus 50 movespeed for 1.5 seconds?

And you have 3 passives to proc without even ulting?

Even considering that it's suboptimal to wait 1.5 seconds between procs, that's still about 2-3 seconds of kenyan.

Allies can proc her passive and get the bonus damage. This is huge. It makes her passive like Braum's.

Her passive is getting nerfed 40 per hit at max level. I'm talking about the weird crap going on with her W that only leona can proc.

zlumpy1 votes

It is based on number of enemies hit. Which early game usually is 2 at most? That isnt so hard to proc all hits. Also her q resets her attack animation which means she can get 3 hits in pretty fast.

Actually ONLY allies can proc the passive as it is lol.

I think he meant the speed it gives now.

They're taking off damage from a champion that's not designed to deal damage and giving her more utility in exchange? Seems good to me.

MissMikasa1 votes

Leona doesn't deal much damage. She's meant for her utility you dimwit. Her root, stuns and slows is all she's about.

Savage Devi3 votes

...exactly the point Man Lee Fisto was making?

MissMikasa1 votes

No he is saying that they are changing her into more of a utility champion. I'm saying she already is. Why nerf her damage and a part of her utility (Q) while buffing other parts and giving a weird damage proc? She is fine as is. People who take her jungle or top will have less damage now to deal out for more utility, which solo Leona doesn't need, but duo Leo will take eagerly.

Savage Devi1 votes

You say she's meant for utility, but then get pissed when she gets more utility... Leona does do damage. Just compare her numbers to the other tanky initiator supports (Thresh, Blitz, Alistar), she does do more, assuming the passive is used optimally. Combined with some of the easiest crowd control to land.

Also you exaggerate the change in her damage. The changes aren't there simply to lower her damage, they're there to gate it with the "weird" Incandescence mechanic. Meaning she'll simply have to do more work for pretty much the same results. That's balanced, Leona gets too much too easily at the moment.

MissMikasa1 votes

No I'm saying for her solo laning, man. Learn to read. face palm. As a jungler or top laner, she has no way of procing her passives, so along with the nerfs to her damage ratios she is doing less.

As far as the Q duration nerf I don't think it's that bad considering they are buffing her E.

Savage Devi1 votes

Because putting off balance for the sake of off-meta players is a good thing now? If these changes make Leona more balanced in the bottom lane where she is intended, we don't need to be concerned for the solo Leonas.

MissMikasa1 votes

Well you should be concerned, and it's not off meta for her to play other roles.

No, he's saying that they are emphasizing her utility which is good since she's already a utility champ.

Tbh the dmg didn't really go away it just got spread out a little more. Its all still there plus the added benefit of AA range slight buff and MS buff.

I've been questioning riots balance changes for the past year or so. Nothing new.

Linna Excel2 votes

Yes, but this is clearly getting worse.

Edit: like I said a simple buff or nerf I get. This is a functionality change I don't think anyone asked for, no one was expecting, and doesn't even make mathematical sense when you consider her build options.

Yes, but this is clearly getting worse.

Who knows, maybe in a year they'll start losing money due to frustrated fans and you know... Actually fix things instead of making things worse.

Who am I kidding, they won't...

I actually like the direction they went with this. The dmg is all still there. Cooldowns are going down. Adds more sticky utility. Plus she may gain new itemization interactions or evdn entirely new items since they were looking into support items as well (pretty sure they said they were) Just think about how annoying she will be in a late game fight with a max CDR for q spam that will have a boosted 50 AA range?

As I don't feel like retyping everything that I just did in a thread I had made, here is the link where I discuss the changes.
