What if you could influence which dragon came up next? Imagine for a moment there were the four elemental runes on the gound. By default a random rune is lit. A champion can walk up and stand on one of the runes for 3 seconds to light that rune. The rune locks 30 seconds before dragon spawns.

That defeats the purpose of them being random and gives better dragon control to the people that killed the dragon. Which in turn puts people who are behind further behind.

There is no purpose to them being random other than trying to make each game feel a little different. It's rng that removes tactical agency from the players.

Getting Dragon has always made it easier to get the next dragon. If you want the next dragon you have to show up to fight for it. A team that already had dragon is at an advantage regardless, and will get stronger no matter what they gain. A losing team may have a chance to pick something like the ocean drake to bolster themselves against sieges, or even just lessen the snowball of the opposing team if they can't contest the drake itself.

Yeah, the point of the dragons is to try and make every game different or at least not build a reliable meta around the dragons. Games should be adaptable based on what you can get. Making it in the hands of the players gives too much of an advantage to the team that just got the dragon for an advantage.

Your punishment for not getting drag should be not getting drag. Not also be subject to whatever the enemy team wants next. A snowballing team will keep grabbing infernal and it's incredibly difficult to actually make a comback against infernal.

Random drakes do not promote any "adaptabilty". You take what you get regardless of what it does for you because you don't want to let the other team get it instead. Unless you have the same champions, one team will benefit from the drake's effects more than the other, meaning they have been randomly favored.

The snowballing of infernal drake is more of an issue with infernal drake itself than anything else. Each other drake has clear support to certain play styles and team compositions. Infernal drake is the odd one out of the bunch, simply granting raw stats that make you better at most things.
