I like Brand Middle because it's unique and a good Tank shredder. I think Brand Support is more viable, but usually people get mad at you AND you usually don't get to build the items his kit is just screaming to buy. ( 
)
However, Brand Support is still really deadly since his ultimate is the deadliest 2v2 ability in the game.

he has the 5th highest dmg average per game.
He is very strong.
However, hes not nerf worthy. Many many many mages are just as strong some are stronger. Hes balanced among mages--strong mages counter act the juggernaut+sated/runeglaive jungler meta.
its important to note that he received few good QOL buffs while pretty alright on top of being a net benefactor from the AP item reworks.
