Is Trinity Force Too Strong Of An Item?

Stats +250 health +40% attack speed +25 attack damage +5% movement speed +250 mana +20% cooldown reduction Passive UNIQUE – SPELLBLADE: After using an ability, your next basic attack (on-hit) deals 200% base attack damage as bonus physical damage. (1.5 second cooldown) UNIQUE – RAGE: Basic attacks (on-hit) grant +20 flat movement speed for 2 seconds. Killing a Unit grants +60 flat movement speed instead.

All that stuffed into one item slot. Bruisers and tanks that can build the item usually do, I personally have no opinion on the item, whats in the game is in the game, but what do you think?

It is a little alarming to see it built on manaless champions and still being gold efficient.

I think one of the biggest problem is the movespeed that it grants when you land a hit, because then ranged champions can't kite and it makes it harder to peel Trinity champions off. I don't think it's too strong on any champion though, especially considering the price.

Yes, it is.

I don't really think it's that overpowered of an item, there are a lot of champions who could potentially use trinity force but not as effectively as other items. It doesn't make you super tanky nor does it provide a lot of AD, Attack speed doesn't scale well on all champions.

All in all, the champions we see 'abusing' it like Ekko only really are able to because of the nature of their kit rather than trinity force alone. Just remember if they weren't building trinity force they'd be building IBG.

Also champions with high AD scalings and low base AD will find trinity force effectively useless.

I disagree.

Trinity force is often rushed as a first, core, item. Often in the top lane (with few exceptions).

Let's consider the other first items that top laners will typically rush: item 3071 item 3142 item 3074 item 3156 item 3153 etc... (honestly I don't know about all of these still being common rushes, but it's not too important).

The point is, a completed item is its own power spike. Trinity force may be a larger power spike than any of the alternatively rushed items, but it also costs considerably more. A Black Cleaver costs 633g less than a TF. That's a while where one player gets the Black Cleaver spike and the other is just sitting on Phage + Sheen.

Trinity force is far more slot efficient than most other items. It's like a Rabadon's or an Infinite Edge. Except the major difference is that it's a rushed item, whereas Rabadons is purchased later (4th most often) and Infinite Edge is optimally completed 2nd (get BF sword, then your zeal item, then Infinite Edge, in most cases)(ADCs are also supposed to be weak early and strong late, so it's not as important to get the early spike).

Players that get TF sacrifice some early power to have a better late game fantasy. Deathcap is arguably more problematic, since it can be purchased later and gives loads of power on purchase. I think TF is pretty healthy to be honest. Abuse its users before they get to it. Even if you don't, it's a while until they hit 6 items and actually gain the true benefit of the slot efficiency.

Another thing to note to put things into perspective is that item 3142 is generally better and more versatile than trinity force across AD champions where trinity force might be viable but not necessarily the best as it provides only some AD and really only works with AD casters that can weave autos between spells.

Champions that build trinity force from my knowledge: Corki Ekko Evelynn Gangplank Hecarim Irelia Jax Mordekaiser Nasus Poppy Udyr XinZhao Yorick

Champions that build Youmuu's from my knowlege: Draven Gangplank Graves JarvanIV Jayce Jhin Lucian Khazix Kindred Kled MasterYi MissFortune Pantheon Quinn Rengar Talon Twitch Zed MonkeyKing Shaco

It's always been a strong item, and they've done a number of things to try and balance it out. I think it's in a good spot now that they've removed crit and AP from it...you could argue that the CDR is a tad high, but it's not really broken on any particular champ.

It is.

how is it alarming that manaless champions would build it? 250 mana is worth less than a starting item and overall means little if your champion makes use of all other stats
