Buff the spell thief item path

Since the buffs to item 3301 and item 3069 I see almost no reason to build item 3303 on my supports. While I do enjoy having my extra damage for poke on some supports such as Sona Bard Nami and others, you just don't accumulate enough gold with spell thief's as you do with coin. In addition, the utility from talisman coupled with its extremely low cool-down makes it a better team pick-up (in my opinion) then frost queens claim. I would love for spell thief and its item path be buffed again so it gives the most amount of gold again at the very least since it is the most risky to use and if coin has to be nerfed a little bit then so be it.

I feel like spellthief itself is quite good in lane, but the upgrades don't feel like they're doing much. The bonus damage falls off hard as people level up (especially since it's non-true, so the amount actually goes DOWN while people are gaining more and more health), and you're not staying in the lane for 5 minutes without backing anyway.

Plus the kind of people who are building spellthief probably have to back off the front lines from midgame onward or die instantly, which cuts down on your opportunities to poke at all, especially on someone as short ranged and squishy as Sona.

The active is harder to use than the guaranteed benefits of the other two fully upgraded support items, although the effect can be pretty good if you do land it.

I agree. I remember when the support items were first introduced and it was basically:

item 3301 Safest with least amount of gold gain

item 3302 Moderate risk with decent amount of gold

item 3303 Highest risk with most amount of gold.

Don't get me wrong, I love coin; it has a fantastic passive for less aggressive supports and talisman is a great upgrade. It's just that, as a support, taking a different gold item in lane can help you dictate how you want to play. If I'm playing Bard or Janna and take coin there is less incentive to try to poke them down and just stay back and peel. But if you take spell theif's, you have more of a reason to take the risk of a trade instead of just dealing small amounts of damage that can be healed up by their support or some life steal.

Side note: item 3302 isn't really up for much discussion in this thread because it feels like it generates the amount of gold that it's supposed to generate relative to the other gold items.

item 3303 is only bought because its gold efficient

item 3098 and item 3092 are not and have terrible stats.

so if you plan on upgrading your sup item, you just get item 3069 .

if you are a tank-sup you get item 3401

if you just want to kinda-make up for the lack of farming but won't upgrade the item, you get item 3303

but for the item that's supposed to be more risk reward why does its upgrades have to be so terrible? Would it really be so bad if the gold you got from poking down enemies gave you a more significant gold bonus?
