passives should supplement kits not replace/dominate them.

so in order to explain the title lets look at a couple of offenders to this rule champs who basically have their kit revolve around their passive. Mordekaiser Sejuani Malzahar without their passive these champions could not function period, their passives are: overloaded un-interactive its what will always make them toxic/unfun to play against.

Yasuo Aatrox Fiora are examples of someone who has a kit dominated by his passive. flat out removing it would cause serious repercussions. and their winrates would drop significantly. the amount of buffs they would require to their kit and base stats to function properly in the current game would be huge.

Velkoz Orianna Gnar here are champion who have IMO well designed passives. they are interactive: meaning that BOTH players get rewarded if they play around this passive properly. removing it would cause a drop in winrate but some rebalance in other parts of the kit would make up for this loss. (ofc gnar would have to be reworked but for the sake of design i would say his passive does the job) Orianna is already a old champ and she has withstood the test of time admirably.

what im trying to say riot is that any champion who has their ENTIRE kit revolve around their passive historically speaking will always be a contender for toxic playstyle's or the nerfhammer.

just my two cents.

how does Malzahar's passive make his Kit revolve around it? his Kit revolves around his Voidlings lol.

Sounds like a yasuo and fiora complaint thread to me. I like how you threw in aatrox to try to hide it, but it still seems like you're complaining.

Also, what if the abilities supplement the champion's autos? Take vayne. Her only castable ability is essentially a stunning auto, and the rest help supplement her autos and W. Some champions rely more on attacks than others and they shouldnt be changed to become more ability-based. Fiora is an auto attack champion that relies on her passive because it is her main form of auto damage. Take her passive away and she is now completely useless. On the other hand, someone like Orianna is 100% reliant on her spells (I'm not counting the Ball as a passive). Therefore she shouldn't have an oppressive passive; she should have much of her power focused on her spells. And she does; have you seen her damage output late game? Someone like Sejuani is a good example for the passive dominance. She is a tank with no real tank abilities. She has mostly crowd control in her kit, and in order to proc the crowd control, she needs to have her passive up to tank damage, so she can stack up her frost or whatever (haven't played new sej). Without a dominant passive she would be a squishy CC champion, which Is pretty ineffective considering her abilities take a while to inflict the CC.

Every champion varies. Some champions rely completely on autos, some on spells. These champions you listed rely on passive s. That's just the game.

Also you don't really play around Orianna's passive; it's autoattacks.

no. what im complaining about here is that due to the nature of his passive he among others will always remain a balance/playstyle mess

Completely missing the point of my comment... but: Yasuo's passive prevents him from burst damage. I think it's a fair and very useful passive because assassins are known to destroy squishies like him. His problem is that he has passive power, auto power, and ability strength which makes him too overloaded, meaning bad players will be confused on his kit and good players can abuse it HARD.

Malz and morde shouldnt be on that list. Do there passives help sure but do they dominate there kit no. Morde is known for his dragon cheese which is his ult. and malz if i had to pick id be stuck between flash r and w+e

malz got nerfed over and over again due to his passive.

mordekaisers shield plays a huge role in his ability to survive and definitely has gotten him nerfed before so in both cases their kits/balance has been dominated by their passive

nerfed with passive in mind and dominated by it are too different things. Kats kit revoles around her passive. Iverns revolves around his passive. Eve revolves around her passive. morde and malz not so much

You are kinda off on velkoz. You are rewarded for dodging his skillshots. His passive is just a did he hit you checker.

Fiora's basically the same, but "Did she hit you at the right angle?" instead. Her general game play is completely independent of her true damage passive, but the highest reward is granted when you can land it. Not sure why she's on this list outside of whining.

Passives are a component of a kit. Being "supplementary" implies it's only an addition.

Some champions have more power centered on their passives, while others have little power invested in them.

A passive is part of the power budget of a champion, a design philosophy that disagrees with your notion.

it's completely fine if a passive is the bulk of a champion's kit as long as their abilities work around that passive

i.e Illaoi literally wouldn't be a champion without her tentacle spawns
