...this game was literally nothing but slow moving, melee, tanky stat sticks, who farm for 40 minutes. Then slap one another with numbers? Because that is what it feels like.

The boards can best be described as a two headed sleeping dragon.
Now these heads want different living environments and nourishment, and will roar and be generally loud when they don't get what they want.
Feed one head what it wants and it will sleep silently.
However it goes to the stomach of both heads, and the other head doesn't like that food, so it roars and snarls and breaths fire all over the place.
In a similar fashion, make things comfortable for the second head, like set the room temperature to 120*, will make the head fall asleep in contentment.
However this wakes the first head, who likes cold rooms. So this head roars and snarls and breaths fore everywhere.
TL;DR
There are two sides of the boards to every aspect of this game. Typically the content side says nothing and "sleeps".
The other side will spam the boards with complaints and say that Riot is killing the game.
If the game goes in the direction to please them, the previously sleeping side will wake up and start complaining.
It is a vicious cycle.

how do you make a non-stat stick champion have an actual power curve that isn't "I am relevant all game no matter how hard I fuck up" because we've seen the champs with abilities that do everything they want 
and I've gotta say, I would rather have more Garens

he's the least binary melee ever created with some champs like yasuo because so many outcomes can happen unlike jax for example

Mira Arya Enthe1 votesKinda what I meant. The boards hates Darius because he is a champ with options and deep gameplay. They seem to hate anything that isn't nasus, yorick, garen or renekton in top. Or of course any hipster nerfed champions.
