She's a Diver, which is an unholy combination of Assassin level mobility and Fighter durability. J4, Nocturne, and Lee Sin are other examples.

She shouldn't be but that's the only real way she works. I've wanted her to be a true AP figher for yonks.

She was not designed as an assassin, but the current state of Items does not allow her to build as some kind of AP bruiser. She can either built that full ap assassin build that makes her dive in, one.shot someone get a massive shield and hope that the team follows up after her e cc's the enemies, OR she can go some kind of off-tank which does the same thing, but her instead of one-shotting someone, she creates an opening to follow up on, while not dying immidiatly herself

With how well Irelia and Fiora's reworks have been I am hoping Diana gets a full on rework sometime soon.
