If Thresh doesn't need any changes why does he...

have this passive

Basic Attacks: Thresh's basic attacks do not utilize projectiles, and his basic attack wind-up is only reduced by 0.25% per 1% bonus attack speed, rather than the standard 1%.

to balance out this passive:

Passive: Thresh's basic attacks deal bonus magic damage, increased with the time he spent since his last basic attack. Bonus Magic Damage: Souls + up to 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 / 200% AD

Kinda stupid that they needed to give him a negative passive just to allow him to have powerful poke with his AA. Without the above he is a broken as hell ADC.

Honestly, he doesn't need these passives. Take them off. Give him compensation with more power elsewhere in his kit I don't care, but this is just sloppy. He should not need a passive to balance out giving him a powerful AA poke that allows a ranged champion to buy Relic Shield.

EDIT: I actually really want to know why he needs this and not more power in his shield/ability base damage/or CC? not really saying he is OP or whatever, I main support and I don't have a lot of problems with him. I just want to know why he needs this.

Because "Thresh isn't that good... he's picked a lot because newbs think he's stronger than he actually is"

-Some jackass ...

Sarcasm aside and more to the point; Thresh's real problem is not a numerical one... his problem is that his kit is absurdly overloaded on a similar level as Lee Sin. The only way he will be on the same level as the other supports is if you cripple him with ultra-low base stats or remove some of his utility.... and of those two choices, the former is always going to be the more likely to occur.

Removing his passive is not the way. Just lower the numbers.

Umm...overloaded means he does everything. I agree with this if this is what you mean. I suggest taking away one of those things. You say no, he's overloaded let's just nerf his stats and don't take away the extra passives.

OXYMORON noun, plural oxymora [ok-si-mawr-uh, -mohr-uh] (Show IPA), oxymorons. Rhetoric

  1. a figure of speech by which a locution produces an incongruous, seemingly self-contradictory effect, as in “cruel kindness” or “to make haste slowly.”.

PS: plat+ rank has Thresh at 40+% pick rate. Don't let them hear you call them newbs. -message to Some jackass

the other option is to make the other support champs kits more robust. Which may or may not happen after the marksman rework.

They did that on purpose so he can actually do some damage that is meaningful but they could nerf his scaling in a way that would keep him from being broken in other lanes.

The idea of support kits is to make them very strong with limited incomes and have enough utility that they never have to have gold, but if they do have gold they are only marginally better so they dont just shove every other champion out of the game. Imagine if Lulu had 1.2 AP scaling on Q and E she would be the strongest mid laner and top laner in the game, Even without good scaling she is strong right now because of her CDs.

Okay, so why not put this poking power into more damage for the E ability? Why not more shield for W? How about lower CDs? Higher Soul drop rate? Why does he need a scaling AA passive that is normally reserved for marksmen?

The passive that deals more damage IS linked to his E, my guess is because they wanted to make his damage take longer to deal. If his E spell just straight up did more damage he could use it for waveclear and he could also just walk up and e you away without autoing and run for decent harass.

Also him being able to use up his stored damage for relic shield is pretty balanced, if he is using it on creeps at least he is not using it on you.

E ability damage not E passive damage. E currently does 65 / 95 / 125 / 155 / 185 (+ 40% AP). That's pretty low after the first rank. Most supports have an AoE ability that does more damage. I don't think it would be that bad to shift the passive here. Heck, it would help him with his engage potential which is where a large portion of his play making is. Wouldn't it be a good thing to shift his power this way? I mean personally, I would like more powerful W as that is his iconic ability but if you think he needs more damage I'd put it on E base ability damage and not just an extra passive that they need a second passive to keep balanced.
