I'm convinced Riot balance team doesn't have a top lane main

With the way top lane is, hell with the way top lane has been for a long time, there's no way that there is a top lane player on the balance team who thinks that this is okay. The balance of top lane is abysmal and I can't believe it's gone on for this long. If you pick a ranged top laner against a melee, you've pretty much won the lane and it's incredibly unfun for the enemy laner. Not to mention it's one of the heaviest "I counterpicked you, I win" lanes I've ever played. Whenever I'm first pick top in champ select, I kinda just accept I've lost lane.

Top laner's problem is that their playerbase consists of players who think the game is 1v1 island, where if they dont curb stomp their opponent, the game's over, yet at the same time complain how they have no impact (?) on the game.

Every lane has losing match ups, every lane has counter picks, ranged toplaners are not even majority of the top picks in that lane, yea it sucks to play a bit safe and not braindead rush your enemy everytime your abilities are off CD, but every lane has to know when he can play aggressive and when he can play defensivly. The best winrates in top are kayle (who's melee in lane, and scales to late) and riven. Kennen and Jayce both have 51% and 50% winrates respectivly, nothing that screams OP.

Learn to play to your strengths, if you cant win lane play safe and wait for your power spike, if you picked a lane bully and lost early, then its' on you.

Ranged top laners are counter picks at best for a handful of immobile melees, not even all of them. Like Garen and Darius. Even some immobile juggies shit on ranged tops in the midgame like Nasus and Yorick. Meanwhile practically anything with a gap closer is going to shit on a Vayne or Teemo. Legit the only ranged tops that are doing mediocre are Vlad and Jayce and possibly Urgot now and they're just mediocre. Meanwhile you have Riven and Hecarim shitting on everything despite being poor little garbage melees

There is no rule that says top lane is melee only and there for damn sure is no rule that ranged beats melee

And then you see that a large chunk of the monsters in this game are melee and come from top lane and I just can’t believe this range hate boner anymore.

Yes range top laners are so strong that is why they make up the majority of top lane o wait they don't. In the top 5 most popular top laners in diamond only one is ranged and that is urgot.

Also range top laners has been popular for like 3 or 4 patches and it would make 0 sense to nerf them like top laners can be ranged and non range tops are still doing well.

If you think range top laners are op then play them meta changes all the time deal with it.

Yea top lane broken champions have over 52% winrate, while ranged has less than 49% winrate. Get better numbers before complaining, you whining top lane main. And you know what just for the fun of it? I'll go play some Renekton with spear of shojin on my smurfs, lets see what they have to say about it.

Christ this thread turned volatile. I want to say that ranged champs aren't my ONLY problem with top lane, just a pretty big one. I'll admit I was vague with this post and it's my fault that people are boiling it down to "stop whining over ranged tops, look at all these other strong melee picks." Yes I agree with you! They are intended to go along with why I think top is unbalanced (cough cough Riven). I just didn't expand enough and only specifically mentioned range, which again is my fault. Some of you, on BOTH sides of this thread, need to calm down a bit though.

As a former jungle main into Top Lane main... I can some what relate. Certain champions in the top lane now can make a match up unbearable to play (looking at your Heimer and Sylas). Either you're going to get extra support from mid/jungle or not. Plus Mage flex picks are becoming popular again which makes dedicated champs within our champ pool less and less.

I'm at the point where I will flex pick a Malz top if I absolutely want to win the match up.

Whenever I play top (secondary) I just lock Akali or Yas (Mostly Akali tho) and destroy any lane without much trouble. Only time I do lose lane is if enemy jungler camps top and also isn't an ass player. Cuz I have had instances where the jungler would camp me top, but they were so bad that I would usually just pick up a 1 for 0.

Yes, teemo/vayne/jayce are gonna make you have a hard time in lane, but if you manage to keep the lane difference minimal their team is going to have one less tank and geneally less utility. Yeah, games are far shorter right now but I'd rather have a good nasus/riven/darius/illaoi/mundo than an autofilled toplaner playing teemo or vayne.

I'm not a top lane main but I've been on both sides as a meele/ranged against the opposite. Sure it's fun to win lane as a teemo but not so much when you have to face your laner again in a teamfight past 20 min. But if you loose to a ranged champ and then proceed to run him down as a full tank garen/nasus/mundo/riven... it's pretty satisfying.

It's not even bait at this point....with broken top laners such as nasus, irelia, Darius, renekton, garen.....good Lord there are too many to count....Mundo.....none of them and I mean literally none of them can be killed late game if only and only the top laners plays smart wards the river and farms near his turret.... especially nasus....with the new change to his stacks all nasus mains have to do is build 3 armor and 3 MR items and they win the game with the ridiculous amount of stacks they gain...have you ever been chased down by a ghosting doggo at full speed running it down mid?....that's flipping scary man....like I said it's not even bait at this point....if I had to guess you just played like a goof by pushing your lane too out, didn't ward the river and then got ganked over and over again. Lost your sht and decided to come here and complain about how top lane isn't balanced 🤔

Maybe because top laners like to be loud obnoxious babies who HAVE to be the most cancerous person in the game at all times both champions and behavior wise.

As a jungle main, I'd love to see a LoL with all top lane champions removed completely and make more room for junglers to play in.

How do people not get the fact that metas shift and you have to adapt with it. If you're a darius top one trick and he fails against a ranged opponent then either shut up and play under the turret until you outscale your opponent or learn to play other champs. This is not a hard concept. A tanky bruiser/juggernaut top will outscale virtually any ranged eventually if he just plays back and farms. Only exception being Kayle, but if you get jungle help and focus on keeping her down early you win.
