Nunu Still Doesn't Have a Keystone

The Yetii Rider··52 votes·3,538 views

I love how Riot says Nunu has too much health, so they nerf his Consume bonus health, and then right after that they completely remove Strength of the Ages from the game. So Nunu lost 5% health on top of 300 health, and now he doesn't have a Keystone.

Nunu is the only Warden champion in the game who cannot proc Courage of the Colossus under any circumstance. Between the removal of Strength of Ages and the base AD increase it almost seems like Riot doesn't know what to do with Nunu so they just want to quietly push him towards being a juggernaut instead. But I don't play Nunu to deal damage. I don't want to build Titanic Hydra or use Grasp of the Undying on a champion I used to play as a pure tank, but what choice do I have? Losing his magic damage on hit has affected his ability to contribute to fights when he builds full tank. Losing SotA has weakened his effectiveness if he rushes armor or MR over health.

Riot has been completely silent so far about this. Nunu was strong right before SotA was removed so it's fine to just have a champion whose kit fits ZERO KEYSTONES IN THE GAME, right?

false, you can proc CotC if you use a blast cone on an enemy :^)

Wow that game knowledge.

drakuIa4211 votes

this isn't new, and if you've been around since the preseason you should know that already.

Spaceman5pff9 votes

Ive never blasted an enemy away with CotC available, I guess.

It is a pretty niche thing, to be fair. No need to be an asshole about it.

They are still too busy buffing people like Draven, who aren't in a bad spot.

They write articles praising themselves on the amazing level of diversity they have when 40% of champs see play.... but are so far up their own echo chambered ass that they fail to realize that means 60% aren't being played.

Nunu isn't flashy. Nunu will eat shit until a rework, just like every older champ.

Flashy LCS champs are good advertising, that's all they care about.

Spaceman5pff3 votes

Who cares if people like you complain alot. you aren't leaving.. at leats not fast enough to stop the game from growing.

People have bitched about balance sucking and wanting to quit LoL for as long as there have been boards. However, unless the game stops growing, they have no reason to change their ways. It is a business, and you, unfortunately, are a number.

I didn't say they are unbalanced, I said that their priorities are wrong. Why they are wasting time reworking Ryze or Malzahar three thousand times when there is still a bunch of outdated beta champs is beyond me.

Let's rework the 2 year old Quinn instead of fixing the underpicked outdated Nunu or Cho'gath.

nunu may have been outdated, but he was and still is a good champion for new players to pick up and is probably the only pick for jungler that is practically guaranteed not to die unless built full AP

False. 100% of champions get played. There are no champions with a 0% play rate.

:P

technically his keystone right now would be grasp.

only problem is that grasp is garbage. but its the one he synergizes most with, as it does scale with health, and he does auto attack enough to trigger it off cooldown.

Building RoA as a last item means that you will still be getting stats after everyone is not gaining anything anymore!

That champion is as cancerous as Shaco. Most players are completely glad that he is dead and gone, me included.

Windspeaker to boost your healing.

Grasp of the Undying for those 1v1 dueling (it was the original go-to Keystone for tanky top laners before Cotc was introduced.)

DFT for those Dot debuff everytime you shoot your E.

Unreformed Shaco7 votes

All incredibly sub-par compared to CoC.

Why would anyone pick Nunu as a frontliner when they can pick a CoC user.

Because you're a Nunu main I imagine.

More control in the jungle. Most CoC users that are warden types have a weak presence in the jungle early on.

Unreformed Shaco2 votes

Only reason Hecarim and Vi have weak presence in the jungle is because they are too busy tower diving and one shotting your mid-laner.

Leonerdo2 votes

He was not talking about Hecarim and Vi. They aren't wardens, nor do they have weak early jungle pressure.

Leonerdo2 votes

Wha... Why would you pick your masteries first and then pick a champ that fits the masteries? That doesn't strike you as bass ackwards?

Unreformed Shaco2 votes

Cause CoC (at least on release) won games.

Twas a joke mastery, and anyone who could take it, would take it. 35% of your health as a shield in teamfights was just stupid.

invisiblecat11 votes

Wait... why windspeakers...

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

To boost your own healing as mentioned.

I mean, hey, if Riven's allowed to abuse the fuck out of Cotc, then I don't see how Nunu getting Windspeaker is a problem.

invisiblecat11 votes

It on applies on healing for allies

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Windspeaker's_Blessing

The 10% increase to shields and healing is a separate effect from the armor and magic resistance buff to allies. This means that the heals/shields you cast are 10% stronger on allies (including yourself), but only your teammates gain the armor and magic resistance buff.

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

Windspeakers only apply to Allies.

The Yetii Rider1 votes

The armor and MR buff only applies to allies. Windspeaker still improves self-healing/shielding, but not regeneration. (So it's good on Vladimir or Shen but not Mundo or Garen).

Bond of Stone.

Nunu is a Tier 1 VGU candidate. I don't see them doing a whole lot to Nunu with a potential 2018 rework.

Nunu takes Grasp

Illâoi Evê Siôn2 votes

Bond of Stone, Grasp of the Undying, or Deathfire Touch. There's three Keystones right there.

The Yetii Rider3 votes

DFT requires you to give up the mastery that gives Tenacity and slow resistance. That's not good.

Bond of Stone gives damage reduction only for the majority of the match. In order for 4% damage reduction to equal 300 health, you would need to take over 7000 damage, each back.

Grasp is what we have to use for now, but it does not benefit tanks. The sustain is again very inferior to just 300 health, especially when it takes 4 seconds between procs. The damage is irrelevant to a pure tank like Nunu.

Pure tanks don't have a place in the game, not the one Rito is balancing everything around.

It's way too easy to be ignored in teamfights if you're a pure tank. However, Nunu doesn't need to, because of his ult and a perma attack speed + movespeed slow.

What do you play Nunu for? That would go a long way for identifying a suitable keystone for him.

The Yetii Rider1 votes

I play Nunu to be a pure disruptor. Build full tank, go into team fights and body block, slow and slow more.

Hmm.

If Bond of Stone was decent (not sure if it effect multiple allies), sounds like it'd be perfect, tbh.

The Yetii Rider1 votes

I have two problems with Bond of Stone.

A) The mastery is largely useless on a jungler until the team fight phase. It doesn't help me clear and it doesn't help me gank, because I only select ganks where my team has an offensive advantage. Shaving damage from my laner is only relevant if we get counter ganked, and in that situation it may end up killing me too.

B) Bond of Stone punishes me for my teammates being out of position. If I'm doing my job as disruptor correctly, my team should only be taking damage if they dive with me or they're stupid.

Knight's Vow solves both issues. I get a Keystone that gives me a bit of damage for ganking (honestly more relevant than Bond of Stone, sadly, would still rather have a selfish tank ability like CotC) and I can opt into protecting my allies based on how they are performing.

It also lets me choose who I protect, so I can back up the 12/6 Jax instead of losing my health bar to the 0/5 Jinx.
