Goddamn, you guys weren't kidding, games really do "end" before 20 minutes

The snowball effect is out of control, and given that no Red's have been talking about balancing that recently, I can't expect that to change anytime soon. I'm fully aware that no one cares, but I think I might actually be done with League for the time being. Everything I enjoyed about this game (strategy, actual competition, comeback potential) is currently dead and drowned, while everything I hate about it (curb-stomping among other things) is currently the name of the game. Since I've started League in late S4, I've stuck with it through even the worst shit, managing to find fun even in 5.16, but the small amounts of enjoyment I get out of it are nothing compared to the frustration. Plus I promised myself that if I ever started becoming a toxic asshole, I would take a longish break, and that's what's happening because of the current state of affairs. Riot, I know you probably don't care about an individual low elo player, but I would really like my 30-40 minute competitions back, and not whatever this garbage is.

Honestly, respect to all you veterans who are putting up with this shit. Maybe you've seen worse, idk, I heard release Xin was pretty bad. I only wish I had that kind of patience.

Well, that's my rant, peace.

EDIT: Ok, since some of you don't understand subtlety, I put end in quotation marks because I meant that you can clearly see how a game is going to end by the 20 minute mark.

Thing is, i could ban xin and kassadin. Unfortunately i can't ban first blood tower gold, jungle as a role on top of it. The amount of champs i need to ban is way too high as well. .

I've been working through my backlog on Steam and anime series.

I'll probably keep playing on occasion so my skill doesn't decay, but the game isn't really that enjoyable at the moment.

It hasn't been terribly enjoyable for a few months now. Maybe even as much as a year, honestly.

Been playing since S1 and I have to agree. There have always been phases in League where one thing or another is absurd, but it tends to be fixed relatively quickly. I believe that the reason for this previously was that there was just a lot less to take into account. There were less champions, new/game breaking mechanics, mobility creep, power creep, etc... Not to mention that with the addition of the most recent masteries champs are gaining a lot of free power just for putting in a few points.

In my experience overall game time has been steadily declining over the seasons with variations here and there depending on what patch was out and what group of champs were "OP", but with the oppressive nature of the newer mechanics with the free power given through masteries it's definitely gone down to a point where if you lose in lane you hardly ever feel like you can come back and just /ff or lose around 20 minutes. Another point is towers now do not feel like they used to. Towers were something to fear that actually took a long time to take down unless you were playing one of a select few champs; now they go down with ease regardless of who you're playing.

As a side note I do feel like this may have to do with ADCs being in such a bad spot right now. These early game power champions have the ability to swing the game in their favor before the ADC can ramp up, and even if they do because of how bad of a spot they are in right now it doesn't/wouldn't even matter. ADCs have notoriously been the late game power house that can bring a team back if you protect them, but take that out of the game and there isn't much you can do. I personally got tired of playing ADC and switched to jungle and it was refreshing to be able to make a difference in the game and get an easy win.

Just my 2 cents.

the reason for quick endging games is because the community has gotten worse over time and people rather give up quickly than try to comeback by playing safe and picking the enemy team apart by baiting / mapcontrol / combined power.

people hating on their own teammates instead of trying to boost morale is one of the worst offenders. people getting upset and butthurt over being told they did something wrong only pours more salt into their wounds leading them to play worse ontop.

it is not riots fault but mostly the way people behave and extrapolate on tiny errors so profoundly they lose the game by simply being douchenozzles. the other 50% reason for quick lost games is that the players are simply weakwilled 0 discipline teenagers and manchildren that absolutely cannot handle on an emotional level the possibility that they´re simply not very good at the game.

the meme of ff20 has become true in many games , why bother bleeding out further if you can have a fresh start and then you stomp and feel better , but next game the same stomp happens to you.

a single duo can say no to your ff20 and there you are inting smartly to end it sooner and say "oops my bad" and thats not cool either but quite common across all elos.

if you play late at night way past afternoon you avoid most of the kids and whiners - thats when i suggest to play league at all. and if you try to play on weekends you´re going to get worst games by far.

I've been playing this game for years and it has never been so bad. I don't like participating in circle jerks but this is really bad. When a champion or an item is overtuned they can simply fix it. But with the FB tower and the reduced fortification on top of the fact that early junglers are fucking broken, what can you do. .. S7 just feel like a bad version of S6 so far. This doesn't feel like a new season it just feel like the same ol' shit.

YUP. A bunch of limp-wristed sissies. Ive come back from ridiculous godzilla stomps. I've been down 5 turrets and like 15 kills and still won.

sphinxthelion71 votes

But then I was 6/0 on kindred in under 15 minutes last night but my team fed so hard I got run the F over. So really it is a group effort. Just cause one champ does well doesnt mean your team can pull their shit together. But then Im in bronze and many people are completely uncarriable. In fact the last game I played as lux I was 6/3 with decent farm. The rest of my team fed about 25 deaths and got 3 kills between them soooooo...This game is frustrating.

MFTORANK15 votes

LoL is in the fucking gutter right now, what's even more frustrating is that i've created threads and others have and still no red has replied yet.

Games last 5-8 minutes now, DQ was bad; this is terrible. I just bought myself bf1 i'm gonna play until league is fun again.

S3 100% kassadin ban was way better... When he didn't get banned I just curb stomped him with good old morde anyways...

Ahristocats3 votes

i remember morde being the only good laning phase counter to s3 kassadin

like one day kassadin wasn't banned and we first picked him, then my mid laner went 0/5 against morde i was like what the actual fuck

Anidan2 votes

AD mids in general, like Zed or Talon, were decent lane counters to him. Especially Zed due to wave-clear, manfighting power and roaming ability.

That said, S3 Kassadin's scariest or most worrisome phase wasn't his laning - it never has been - it was his late game that was monstrous.

Ahristocats1 votes

LOL? kassadin laning phase, ulti+Q+E remove between 30 and 40% of your hp, walk away while you're slowed and silenced

Anidan1 votes

What, were you not doing anything of your own pre-6? Because it's not like he was impossible to zone, especially not for AD mids who didn't have to worry as much about him.

Am I suggesting he didn't warrant his 100% pick/ban rate? No. But his laning phase wasn't even the most worrisome part of his existence.

Besides, this was the same time that if Talon got annoyed with him he could hit 6 with Brutalizer, jump on Kassadin with his own silence and kill him in one burst after maybe 1 or 2 Rakes.

Sir Poodle3 votes

Really? For me, since doom bots, only one SR game that wasn't a remake has been under 20 minutes.

Anags3 votes

Seriously that's BS. Look at your own match history for crying out loud. Almost all your rift games are 30+min.

People are over reacting like crazy. Stomps happen but not near as often as people say.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

They happen every game. The only reason games still last longer is because low elo is trash and can't end for whatever reason. But during laning phase it becomes obvious which team will win. A few kills and tower first bloodand the game is over. Even if it is dragged out for 30 mins.

Anags1 votes

Really, lets take a look at Shiphtur's last 20 games. He is a challenger mid. He had 3 games over 40 minutes, 7 between 30 and 40 minutes, 9 between 20 and 30 minutes, and 1 at 18 minutes. Of the games between 20 and 30 minutes 5 were 28 or 29 minute games.

His average game length over 25 games is 30.6 minutes. So, your low elo trash argument is shit.

30 minute game times seem okay to me and I think that is what Riot is shooting for. A 30 minute game isn't decided at the 10 minute mark normally either.

Stomps have happened in every season. Hell, people complain about how they can't snowball as hard by themselves as in past seasons. Games are faster but people are over reacting to this.

Are you replying to me or OP?

New 20 minute meta or S3 100% kassadin ban

what's worse? you ban one dude and get a good game

Its pretty sad when ARAM feels more competitive/back and forth than Summoners Rift.

The Whamboozler1 votes

Then out come the people with ARAM accounts... and you wonder what the point of even this is.

People can and will ruin EVERYTHING with their cheesing, whining, rage and obnoxious Op-spamming bullshit.

To start with, you should stop feeding Krugs. They are already a pain to clear.

Pommel Knight3 votes

You have no idea. Most games in Diamond you can't even surrender because of low short they are. I mean sure, make the games shorter, but ffs I don't want them/us ending the game before 20 min. Worse yet, whoever wins early wins the game, you WILL NOT make a comeback.

Who is Taliyah1 votes

There are many games in diamond, too, that go on for more than 40 minutes still. People throw even in diamond, and teams that are losing can comeback by playing it out right. It depends on how well the synergy of your team is.

Ambient Snow2 votes

I gotta Agree, I miss the days when games actually took 20 minutes the problem now is to many champs just go out of control steam roll

Example Dunk master YI..

GigaPube2 votes

now its all a matter of convincing your delusional future teammates. with riot not going to be doing anything until 2-3 months more of board posts as prevalent as the 10 ban requests or the yasuo hate threads, everyone has to know, koreans surrender MUCH earlier than anyone on the planet. its because they know when games are lost because they respect their opponents enough, especially in higher elo, to close the game out. but you dont have to be versing koreans for you to know you have a +90% chance of losing. you just have to be versing someone 3 kills up with successful jungler/mid ganks

You're not playing well defensively if your games are all over in 20 minutes.

This is the distribution of my last 30 ranked games: <20: 0 20-25: 4 25-30:6 30-35: 4 35-40: 9 40+: 7

That's 10 of 30 games at under 30 minutes. Over half of my games over 35 minutes. I feel like about 1/2 of my total wins have been comebacks.

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

I'll admit this game feels god awful to play most of the time but there are some matches I have fun in... I still enjoy it don't get me wrong but the stomp fest are just horrible especially when it feels like there is no way to make a comeback.

Teemodanegro1 votes

I like 20min games better than 50min games. So no complaints here.

Mythic pepe1 votes

bot lane gets ganked withing 3 mins by lvl 3 lee sin "gg" the game doesnt have easy snowballing, its a fucking avalanche

Shifue Draven1 votes

I think i am honestly about done myself as well i started last season as friends got me into the game from dota2 i remembered having 30-40 min matches now most of the time they seem to be done around 15 minutes and actually end around 25 with no real comeback potential. I think when for honor comes out i am taking a long break from league.

BlueBilberry1 votes

To be honest, I think it depends quite a bit on which champions are being selected and the players manning the champions. I've had quite a few games lately - turn into marathons (40-50 minutes). (Don't ask me how it has happened.)

Quite a few of the current FOTM champions that are getting played are early game champions (e.g., Jayce, Yasuo, etc.), and if both sides are selecting them, then sure the games will be over quick. (And I do note that quite a few of these early game champs are making it past the selection stage into the game at the lower tiers.)

On the other hand, if you are on a team which has selected quite a few tanks and late game champs, and they know how to prevent the other team from getting too many early kills (and that's the key!), then the game not only doesn't snowball early - but it often ends in a win for the "slow and steady" bunch.
