Dragon Changes and who they hurt (and help)
Playing a fair bit of games in the new season I've definitely noticed some changes to the gameplay overall and how it effects balance.
Who it hurts:
Supports: Hurt by the dragon changes alot. Already one of the strongest roles, them hit with a nerf isn't the worst thing that could happen to game health. Still, in a game where they're ricing for gold, no more dragon gold really hurts their role and means even less items per game.
ADC: They now hit their power spike much later, a good 7 minutes or so later it feels like. Which is good for game health too imo. They hit their power spike so early before that it felt like they were pretty much strong all game except laning phase. That should not be the case so that is fixed now. Late game ADC is buffed however, early game presence counts for alot more tho so a nerf overall.
Tanks: They already usually don't claim kills and they don't do much damage so the dragon changes gate their items more and benefit them less.
Item dependent champions: At 30+ minutes you won't have your 3rd major item completed yet. Before that was not the case. If you require your 4-5 item build to be a true terror you just got way nerfed.
Who it helps:
Mixed damage dealers: People who do mixed damage get the most mileage out of the dragon buff's first reward.
Damage dealers: Most of the buffs are damage related so if you are focused on damage (hello Riven) you are really buffed. Those who stack damage items only benefit most (hello Fiora).
Mages: already the early game presence as dictated for a long time, they now have more time they are relevant and strong. A definite boon for mages. They pretty much got their game viability ramped from 20 mins to about 32 mins because that 3rd full item is what allows things like ADC to become truly into their own. Tanks too. Expect top lane mages to resurge in popularity.
I think it's going to be a very different season just because of how long it takes to get to a full 6 items now. It can also delay games a very long time. I had my first over hour long game in months with these new changes.
