Dumb thought: What if mages had less hard CC?
So as some of you complain about, the game is currently overloaded with hard CC. We got hard CC from your mages, tanks, supports, fighters, hell even your ADCs get some hard CC. It seems to be Riot's goto utility when it comes to designing champions, and to be frank I don't blame them since slows feel ineffective against mobile champions and having no CC at all makes you basically trash unless your numbers are dumb high (hi
).
So why not start lessening the amount of hard CC in newer champions (specifically mages but there are others) and use other forms of utility/unique CC.
One example is grounded.
Incoming hate from every high mobile champion main
It's an example ok. You can argue that grounded pretty much makes your champion unplayable, but so does getting stunned and ulted by a
most of the time. At least grounded people can run and cast abilities.
Speaking of abilities, another CC we could see are silences. Silences would need to be unreliable though since reliable ways to stop the enemy from casting abilities is why assassins don't get them anymore.
These new forms of CC should also be unreliable, allowing for better counterplay and more skill expression.
And why mages? Honestly I think that they tend to have too much of it sometimes with their kill potential. I'm not saying we remove Brand's stun combo, Lux's root R combo, or Syndra's big AoE stun that later nukes people when combined with her ult. I'm just saying I'd like to see future mages with less hard CC in their kits to give them more variety.
Just a dumb idea.
