Why is the preseason so short this year?

I tried looking it up, but couldn't find anything on it. I remember the last few years the preseason would last much longer. What's the reasoning behind this?

I don't particularly mind either way but I too am curious.

They wanted to try a shorter off-season since a long one creates a disconnect in the player-base during that part of the year. Many people leave during pre-season since people aren't playing seriously.

(The Preseason is an average 3-5 patches, sometimes 6 but that was in issue before)
