Magic Pen

So I played a game of Cho mid in normals, and decided to go for a Liandry's after RoA + Sorc Shoes. I was literally oneshotting as long as my Q hit, and even if it didn't my autos and W (and Tlords) would get them low enough to ult if they tried to fight me.

My damage never really fell off either. I just stopped landing my Q's as often (don't play Cho often D:) and then I was being mowed down by the Jinx (not a big deal in teamfights because I could just F, or just Q+W and let my Ekko and Olaf take care of the rest). So my question is, on mages with decent bases or even low-average bases, is Liandry's worth? It essentially gives you true damage on ranged carries that didn't build MR (namely, ADC's and everyone who rushes Morellos).

Of course liandry's is worth it if you're a mage with pretty good DPS such as Cassiopeia Azir AurelionSol Heimerdinger Karthus Orianna Zyra Ziggs Usually against teams with 2+ really tanky champions.

I meant even against squishies, with the extra 15 flat pen. And for extra burst, not dps.

Well if you're trying to use it for burst then it could work since it comes with a bit of AP and health, but there are items that do it much better such as item 3001 item 3165. Usually have to buy it as a very last item though.

I like to take it on brand support as a second or third item. With that and a fat 20 pen on runes there isnt much that can handle the damage unless they have much more range or outnumber us.

What about mid? Or are big ticket AP items better?

I don't take him mid. I used to untill better items started poping up for supports.

Alot of players will tell you that massive AP is gow you play him and there is a bit of truth there. What you have to look at however is that he has great base damage and % damage that scales based on your opponant. AP helps but I love flat pen way better. Liandries, sorc boots and later voidstaff give 50 flat pen and 42% pen with runes and masteries. Slip in the ap sightstone and Rod of Ages and your pick of CDR or resistances and you should be golden. As support you have to remember that tagging everyone with damage still gives you stupid amounts of burst so having Expose Weakness gives your allies a good 10ish seconds of bonus damage for hitting a single ability.
