Dark Harvest is Riot's attempt at redeeming Feral Flare.

To all of my OG jungle friends who remember feral flare (rip patch 4.5-4.20 may you blaze it in glory) It encourages junglers like Yi, Udyr, Kayn etc who love to farm early and scale, in some regards, into the game. However the main issues with feral flare were A) it was so underwhelming early that you had to stack it for the first 20 min of the game and if you didn't you were basically screwed B) it was so good late game you could just afk farm for the first 20-30 min and not get punished for it even if your team lost all lanes and finally C) it turned any jungler who bought it into an item reliant jungler how the earlier iterations of rageblade/bloodrazor pre changes. However DH also solves the key issues that these items created with their playstyles. While it does encourage farming to stack it's on hit damage you only get the benefit under certain conditions which only become relevant with lane presence and farming combined. I feel that this is actually a really good idea for a stacking keystone that can have such power.

actually looking at it, i think dark harvest duration should start lower and scale up to last longer.

like 10 seconds lvl 1 to 40 seconds lvl 18.

reason is, early game it could cause a lot of pressure with a 20 second duration. lategame it could be too situational and reliant on nearby minions or monsters to be actually good.

you need to be able to pick up a soul and then possibly roam across the map past 30 minutes.

very good point, I actually agree with this

how does dark harvest exactly work?

on their stream they said something that it stacks infinitely, but the description of the rune on their preseason page says, that the bonus damage falls off after 20 seconds.

edit.: oooh, never mind i understand.

the effect itself lasts only 20 seconds but the damage depends on how many souls you have previously collected.

kayn?, kayn is not based on autos, warrior still better option.

kayn?, kayn is not based on autos, warrior still better option.

he doesnt mean kayn likes to auto attack as much as yi, but that he likes to farm and scale into lategame.

similar to feral flare, dark harvest stacks off large monsters (or cannon minions).

Gildarzt1 votes

yes, but i mean there is no sense to build a autoattack item on kayn

KAAAAAAAYN DO1 votes

it's not even an item, its a keystone in the new system that adds bonus damage to a single auto like how duskblade does. it's burst damage, not sustained dps

i was talking about old feral flare

then your comment is irrelevant, I never suggested that Kayn would build old feral flare, he would have build elder lizard. The reason I believe Harvest will be good on Rhaast (numbers barring) is the fact its burst damage from stacking and he is incredibly farm heavy early game, clears insanely fast mid game and roams a lot thus making it incredibly easy to stack.

The current numbers suck for jungle farming. You gain souls faster by afk farming lane even pre-20 min when the spawn rate of cannon minions is lower.

You get by far the most from high body count teamfights though.

Currently the largest hurdle for dark harvest is the fact that you only gain the effect after collecting a stack. For laners that means 1 DH stack every 2 waves, for junglers that means 1 attack coming out of the jungle to gank, and then 1 stack to use on the enemy turret if the gank was successful.

Which means the ideal gank for DH is something like Kill laner using DH during a cannon wave > attack turret with DH > attack turret with a second DH when the turret kills your cannon (unless they changed it on the PBE, since I was hearing reports that ally cannon and champion deaths were counting as souls.)
