Galio, Changes to Make Him More Anti-AP?

Galio is essentially the Malphite for AP champions. Malphite builds armor and it becomes damage, Galio builds magic resist and it becomes damage.

Major difference is Malphite also brings a massive attack speed slow and most champions that rely on AD don't want their ATK Speed gutted. Galio brings no such additional utility to screw over mages. When you pick Malphite into a team of nearly full AD it's almost an easy win as long as your team doesn't feed during the laning phase. The same isn't the case at all for Galio when he's up against a nearly full AP team.

Hell you could argue that Chogath fills Galio's niche better at the moment. Cho'gath can be tanky due to his passive and build full AP with hybrid defense items. He won't be as unkillable as a Galio but the AoE silence screws them hard as well as burst them.

Perhaps Galio could have some sort of conditional silence, or his shield could also give a magic damage shield on top of it, or give additional AP according to how much MR Galio has. Or give him a MR aura similar to Taric.

Galio scales much, much harder off of MR than Malphite does on armor. Only two of his abilities have small armor scalings, while 4 of Galio's spelld scale off of the AP he gains directly built from MR. That's why Malph gets that attack speed.

The thing is when I pick Malphite or even Taric against a a heavy AD team I can really feel the impact of how great of a pick it was for the entire team. Picking Galio only really seems help the Galio. Seams off for such a niche tank.

I personally feel otherwise.

When playing Galio, there are so many items that compliment him so hard, and his kit works together in a very meaningful way. Athene's is a staple item on him that gives him AP and MR, there's spirit visage that increases his W's healing as well as gives him AP and health.

He basically becomes a high damage dealing tank. Malph can feel more impactful because of his ult. Compared to Galio, his ult provides a lot more instant utility and reliability. However Malphite's damage doesn't come close to Galio's.

Galio's issue, although seemingly remedied a bit by Righteous Glory and deadman's plate, is that to use his game breaking ult, he needs to just glide at the enemy team, with help of his E. There's no Mark/Dash on SR so his ult is hard to land properly. Another issue is that he is designed to be a counter AP, and those tend to be found mid lane. However, you need to have high damage if you go mid lane, and for Galio to achieve true mage-level damage, he needs to forgo his MR niche and just build AP, with the exception of maybe SV+4 AP items+Boots.

Malph and Taric feel better because in the roles that their niches call for, they are best suitable. Galio would be a fairly good top laner vs someone who was AP.

if he had better mana costs and a way to initiate hed be actually unstoppable

Remember when his Righteous Gust made for an excellent initiation spell? Yea, me neither.

He really is like Annie in the sense though that flash W + Ult is his big play maker.

with all short cool down displaces and stuns, his ult can be interrupted by like half the champ roster. Not a ll unstoppable

assuming hes the tank of the team, wouldnt blowing cc on him be a good thing?

not when you have to pull double duty as the initiator

I think he just needs better mana costs, also you ever thought of trying him out as support?

I used to in Season 3. Mana problems are too much imo, having to build a chalice is a pain.

One thing I hate about this thread is that you completely ignored Galio's ult, which is a total turnover given that he can time it well.

Chogath can be tanky with his ult from gaining bonus HP, but he doesn't have an ability that gives him 70 Armor & MR which heals from taking damage. Did I not also mentioned that Galio can place it on squishies too? What about Cho? He also has a selfish ability to gain bonus HP for himself, why not complain about him??

Galio 's E grants bonus movement speed to ALL allies(including minions), which screws mostly immobile champs likeVeigar Lux. Especially in occasional times where Galio would builditem 3800 , he can be pretty darn scary.

The fact that Galio 's passive grants him bonus AP from building MR makes item 3190 an ideal item for him in terms of team-wise defence. I doubt you would build this on Taric against a full AD team just for a mini-shield.

All true, but for starters Malphite ult is just more reliable. There are times when picking Galio is just so not ideal even if your against heavy AP. Alistar can just ult out and headbutt you, or god forbid you accidently press R while someone like Xin or Garen have their Q's primed to knock you right out of it.

Regardless all the things you mentioned while true don't help with the fact that he doesn't feel like a true AP hard counter like Malphite or Taric. His kit doens't provide anything naturally that screws over AP comps like Malphite does and Taric to a lesser degree. Most of the time I play Malphite into a full AD team its GG, he's brokenly OP in those scenarios because of how he builds armor for damage and slows down auto's. Galio against a team of full AP only seems to benefit himself.

But yes his W is an incredible ability. I love throwing it on a Master Yi and watch the enemy wonder why they can't kill him lol.
