Garen Really a Juggernaut?

Ever since the Juggernaut patch I've been frustrated with the state of Garen. I will say he's overall stronger, but not better, since I can almost never justify picking him. Garen used to be the guy I would pick if I wanted to smash lane, or even go even, and/or shut down assassins. It's harder to do either now. He's far weaker early, and by the time he scales up the champions that he would normally bully an advantage out of naturally outscale him anyway. He's stronger late game, yea....but he's still Garen, his kit isn't tooled for late game, and the fact that his silence went dont from 2.5 to 1.5 makes shutting down Assassins and carries harder, not to mention the speed nerf.

I was even comfortable blind picking him before because Garen could deal with ranged champs fairly well due to his bulk and regen. You could just shred a wave with your Spin, eat the harass with your tankiness and regen with your health. Flash combo em if you have an opportunity. But his E scales so damn slow too now and does less damage in AoE scenarios. Once again harder to pick.

Finally the point of a Juggernaut is someone with low mobility, high durability, but could rip almost anyone to shreds if they got in range 1 on 1. Garen's damage is bursty, so this doesn't apply to him either. All other Juggernauts have consistent damage output, while Garen needs to wait for CDs, unless your the Villain and your autos do True Damage. Thus he gets out dueled by almost any other Bruiser, and pretty badly unless once again....they're the villain.

That silly Villain mechanic was supposed to give him some sort of identity and value. But who picks a champion assuming someone is going to snowball? In reality Garen was never a Juggernaut type but an odd tanky assassin that could kill almost any squishy if he landed his silence and wasn't peeled off with his ultimate.

Huge Tank? Check Tons of Damage? Check Low Mobility? Check

He's a juggernaut. His damage is bursty but with Black cleaver he also shreds 55 percent of your Total Armor making him do great sustained damage as well. he just has a hard time staying on top of people, which is what juggernauts should have a problem with.

Juggernauts also have in-combat sustain:

Illaoi and Nasus with their passives. Yorick and Darius with Q Morde with his W

I may have missed one or two juggernauts, but the point is all of them have a mechanic to heal in combat.

Garen doesn't. In fact, his heal is specifically OUT of combat, and is shut down even longer by poking him. Meaning that he gets countered even harder than a normal juggernaut by being poked from outside his kill radius.

He builds like a Juggernaut (1 BC into full tank but still does decent damage) but plays more like a diver (but with only a Q movement boost and no actual immediate gap closer like a Renekton dash).

I'd say he's more of a Diver but just one that builds like a Juggernaut and has less dive capability than others. In team fights, he definitely goes for the backline instead of staying at the front and centre and fighting the front line.

Garen builds better as an assassin, since they felt the need to nerf his Q mobility and Silence duration during his rework you basically have a 1.5 second window to get anything done in a teamfight.

Then you look busy. Darius heals, deals better sustained damage, and has better CC and stickiness then Garen, all while having a stranger laning phase and late game.

Not much point to playing him really.

I stopped playing Garen after true damage dealing champions started to dominate toplane : Fiora Darius Irelia Vayne . He is good at nothing other then the satisfying ultimate. He cant catch people because everyone and their mother got rocket in their arse and they can fly/dash around the map with no cd while Garen has to wait for his nerfed Q to reach anyone. Maybe Garen should get a movement speed boost while in his E. (the longer he spins the faster he gets). or another stupid idea his spin could create a vacum that draws in nearby enemies after 2-3 second has passed. Another idea he should be immune to CC while using his Q.

Garen is an extremely simple champion with a completely point and click kit that is impossible to fail at, other than forgetting to activate his W. His theme is also pretty boring. Right now, he's just "generic muscle knight hero dude."(this is a recurring problem with older demacian characters. Xin, Jarvan, and Garen all have really similar themes, with the only thing seperating Xin's theme with Garen's is literally just that he uses a spear. Xin desperately needs an update.) Sure, there should be a Knight champion in the game, but it needs to have something more to it to make it distinctly League.

That's why he should get a WW sized rework to help improve his kit design (it's definetly salvageable in the same way WW's was, there's nothing inherently toxic in it other than maybe the Villain mechanic.) and give him a new facet to his character that makes him more interesting and less generic.

he's an assassin in URF get your 18% crit chance runepage, rush a infinity edge, then get duskblade and shiv and nuke your opponents into oblivion with the help of your trusty poro, garenteed to work
