Now that I've tried Nexus Siege, I think we need a "Zerging" Champion to add to the siege lineup

What do I mean by "Zerging"? Well, picture that you're up against the Zerg in Starcraft, and you're up against endless waves of Zerglings, Banelings, Locusts, etc. You are being sieged by a swarm, and no matter how hard you fight you are going to be overrun if you don't do something drastic.

That is something that, presently, isn't available in League. None of the current pet-Champions (Malzahar, Elise, Yorick, etc.) have the ability to use their pets as a viable siege option.

I'd like to know if Riot has any thoughts to making a Champion that takes some notes off the Zerg Swarm Host. Basically root yourself in place, mark a location, and send a stream of ankle-biters at it to overrun the area. Enemy counterplay? Kill the source.

Not good enough!

sounds like it would be too annoying to play against unless the leash range is really short or the summons are easy to wipe out, which would make it really unsatisfying to play as.

The summons would die easily, but are in legion. Imagine hundreds of them over the course of a siege scenario.

But of course, there'd be some caveats. For one, the summons would have no unit collision, so you don't get stuck on them.

numbers aren't an issue with big AoEs though. If Karthus can turn on his AoE and wipe them all out, that's awful for the zerg player. If Defile doesn't kill them, then that's awful for everyone else.

Nexus Siege's siege weapons are intentionally overpowered, because you're supposed to be able to kill the nexus. The only question is how fast.

Karthus can't keep up his AOE forever. Defile's mana cost would burn him out eventually since Riot hates mana regen on mages.

It would be hard. Group control in SC means that putting a few units into a non-mobile state doesn't detract from gameplay. However, doing so in League causes all sorts of issues. Old Xerath rooted himself and doubled the range of his other abilities and gained magic pen. It was great when teams fought somewhere away from you, but really sucked if you were at the edge of a teamfight or against a mobile team. He has since been reworked and doesn't root himself, except to ult from across the map.

I would imagine that a champ that had one or more basic abilities that prevented him from moving would be annoying to play as. Root yourself in the wrong spot and jungle ganks, skill shots, ults, you name it are going to rain down on you. If your damage is tied to this ability (you spawn minions) then you end up putting yourself in a position where you can't respond to enemy pressure without removing your ability to do damage.

Well, we could take notes either from the Swarm Host or the Infestor. The way the Infestor spawns Infested Terrans could be more appropriate.

That returns to just another minionmancer, which riot has always had difficulty making and balancing.
