Why did they remove Atmas Impaler?

Atma's Impaler

I have never really had any complaints with Riots decisions. nerfs, item changes, new champs. for the most part, everything they did was agreeable to me.

item 3005 This was one of my favorite items I used. Atmas Impaler was a great item. It was epic on both new and old Sion. I loved using it in combination with Frozen Mallet. When I jungled with alot of characters, WW for example, not only did it give me the defence of a tank but it allowed me the damage needed to finish them off when in pursuit of a runner. this combination worked on many of my favorite champions, Including Sion, Udyr, WW, Braum and many others.

Today I was practicing the new Jungle Items with my main Jungler WW, following my typical build path when I noticed it was gone.

Why was it removed? I never really felt like it was Overpowering. Don't get me wrong it was a strong item, but I never won every game with it. So why was it Removed?

It was removed because Riot thought it was too useless and was bad for gameplay. It's in the 4.20 patch notes.

Why are people down voting you.

Are they? I'm just saying what I saw Riot write in the patch notes.

Sry did a down Vote changed it to a upp vote.

Honestly, all Riot would have needed to do is replace the Avarice Blade with a Pickaxe and the thing would have been fine.

IT was a trap item. It was nerfed to a level where it was not viable back in season 3.

They just finally removed it. When it was viable it was not healthy for gameplay.

It was actually never a trap item, in its previous state it was actually perfectly balanced I would argue they removed it because they wanted to nerf tanky bruisers because they only care about ADCs

No bruiser in their right mind built Atma's. If you did, you were stupid. The last time it was any good was back in Season 2. It has been trash for a VERY long time.

Riot decided instead of trying to figure out how to make it viable, they would just get rid of it. lazy, but thats why.

Do math, it was fine Completely ignoring the mostly useless Crit, it was pure gold efficient at 2600 hp which is beyond easy for a Bruiser to achieve

That doesnt make it fine. Being gold efficient isnt the only thing that matters. being slot efficient is just as important. And wasting a slot on an item you cant even take full advantage of is BAD.

There were maybe 2 champions that could use it effectively, and neither of them were good champions to begin with.

without the passive yes its trash but with the passive it would make a item 3083 item 3022 item 3078 item 3111 item 3153 bruiser do a SHIT TON more damage but at least it wasnt as bad as executioners calling and a bunch of champions that it is good on are Garen Vi Trundle Volibear XinZhao Sion Nasus LeeSin Hecarim JarvanIV Darius Aatrox Urgot

Did you ever play voli even once? It was a core item at one point.

Look your bronze and you do not know what you are talking about. It has not been in a good place since season 3. When it was balanced it was a must buy by every bruiser in the game. When its placed in a niche area their are better other items.

Again all season 4 it was not balanced it was under-tuned intentionally especially with the health items slowly losing health.

EffectFX1 votes

No, it was pretty meh as far as items go. Very few champions could use it efficiently.

I have uesed this item on many bruisers, and its one of my favorit items to combine with frozen mallet, just like you.

I main master in solo and challanger in 3v3 and 5v5 and in my opinion it was a rly great item. Have always been, and for the champs who have hard in the lane phase early u could just make a Avarice Blade and then go atmas when u had more hp.

I'm just glad riot listend 2 me and many outhers and didnt remove FM (frozen Mallet) it's Darius Core item and it's an item who many meele champs need agianst the champs with good mobility or jump abilities to even stand a chance against em.

I hope riot take atmas back or make at least a simmerlar item. So just Pray that the Great Summoners will hear our prayers and make em Come True!

Just wanna say that all ITEMS!!! in the game are about game play and ur game style not about a champion. For example i play morgana in a way most people flame me for my build. I have played her over 3800 games i know what I'm doing. I'm one of the best Morganas in the world if not the best (hope I'm ^^) supose we will just see if i get her in LCS 2015.

Pretty sure it's cause it's just not viable. It's hardly ever used so why keep it around? They still have it on the 3s map so it's not like it's completely gone, but it's still rarely ever seen.

Atma's was a very misleading item. Your right in that it does become gold efficient at a certain HP treshhold, but it doesn't justify opportunity costs for slot space. While it could definitely work in certain situations, there was always a better option that you could have gotten instead. This is the major problem that Riot has with it, and why it is considered to many to be a 'trap' item.

The existence of a sub par item is detrimental for just being an option in the first place. For example, if you had the following options:

Option 1: Good Option 2: Better Option 3: Better Option 4: Better

From above, it's obvious that you should never choose Option 1. If that is the case, then why even make it an option in the first place? In the off chance that someone does choose Option 1 for whatever reason, they will innately be worse (not saying it's bad, but it is the worst of all the options). So in a way, Riot is saving people from themselves.

Look I know you liked the item and honestly I did to, but it caused more problems (being a generally available, sub par item) then it solved (a few niche builds that weren't very good in the first place). Don't think about it being gone, rather what you can replace it with. After some experience with the replacements, I'm sure you'll know what I mean by Atma's was sub par.

pff.. following this logic you can also remove the items alltogether like in Heroes of the storm -.-

what is the meaning of a choice when every option has the same outcome? And if 1 option has another outcome for the good or for the worse then it got to be removed? That's stupid.

I don't get why they removing content from the game anyway, why not just rebalance it? Or change it completely like they did with Sion? Why reducing the games content step by step? It doesn't make sense to me.

I agree If the item is bad for other players then it should not mater for them that the item is there. Others like it let them use it. The more Items the more choices we have make for more ways to play and make the game fun. But it in the end we all got to play the build that riot or pros say we should play then half the fun of making new builds and saying this is my style is gone.

They should bring back Atmas and let have our say . If others do not wish to use it then DO NOT USE IT let us use it.

The main problem with Atma's Impaler (imo) was the effect. Back in S3 the problem of the league of bruisers was rising. Atma's Impaler was just encouraging this issue even more. It gave the ability to become an almost full tank and keeping the damage of a bruiser.

And now Riot is observing the bruiser vs tanks problem. It's really hard to have both co-existing togheter. Right now, on the PBE they bring back the health on Cinderhulk. I expect a nerf on the % health on the next PBE cycle honnestly.

Just saying on garen, mundo, and sion this item was stupid good, and that was before garen got that little buff and sion got a revamp. on garen that crit chance and the dmg was just stupid, gave spin to win another meaning when you are getting crits as a full tank
