How to Fix Cho'gath

Chogath How to fix Cho'gath:

  1. lower cd on w and q. even with 40% cd they're still both way too long 2a. 10-20 more dmg on his E, or make E his passive 2b. Give him a better gap closer, maybe similar to leona and amumu. A lunge type attack fits his character fine. Reducing the cd on his q will help too.
  2. Feast is finally useful. don't touch. Personal note - Teach playerbase how it works so they stop stealing stacks :P

As he is now he regularly get over 4k health with just 5-6 stacks, and his ult hits for huge damage, but his ult is the ONLY thing that does damage comparable to other AP tanks. Someone elsewhere asked why you'd play Cho'gath when Maokai was an option, and a lot of it has to do with his lack of versatility and low damage.

Comments welcome.

I don't want every tank getting a dash. I like having some that still zone instead of just being rush down CC. Buff maybe, lunge move no. Dashes don't need to be on every kit.

Disagree.

  1. If you give Cho'gath a dash, he will become op as he is currently, he has too much burst/survivibility. If you give him a dash, he largest defining weakness is gone, and his numbers would all have to be tuned down.

  2. I will concede his E is a little underwhelming later on, but it actually helps a ton in early trades, cementing his strong early game.

  3. I honestly think his cooldowns feel about right, his Q and W are both very impactful spells, they have a longer than average cooldown to match.

From what little I have seen of Cho since the ult rework, I think he feels pretty good. You might want to try building more ap off-tank than pure tank. With the right build he does WAY more damage than Maokai, has more , but is more tanky. They aren't really comparable.

Do you play Cho or did you just see him run your team over? Because honestly, the word burst applied to Cho is laughable at best. His ONLY burst comes in the form of his ult, which is on a long timer (roughly a minute depending on CDR etc.), and might do 1k dmg fully built at level 18 (to champs - closer to 2k to minions and jungler monsters). His E does just under 100 dmg a second, so unless you use item space to build attack speed, you're porked there. His W's biggest threat is the silence (maybe 200 dmg) with an 8-10 sec cooldown, and his Q does roughly the same with the knockup instead of the silence. I would call burst more along the lines of a mid-lane assassin or jungler dropping over 1k dmg in a second, without ulting, rather than Cho's having to use his ult to do meaningful damage in anything close to a 'burst'.

You can try this out in the new practice tool. I've tried several builds, and the best dps (via his E) came with the attack speed build (similar to an ADC): RoA, Bers. Greaves, Rapid Firecannon, Phantom Dancer, (Bloodthirster, Youmouu's Ghostblade) OR for more AP (Nashor's Tooth, Guinsoo's Rageblade). Hextech Gunblade also fits very well for life steal here.

He can build EXTREMELY tanky very easily, but doesn't have the damage output or sustain from those builds to be overly viable, as he then has to build AD versus AP for the +HP/AD items. The best option I've seen so far ( since ADC Cho would get royally screwed), is in the jungle, where he can get some farming done without much harassment - just be ready for your team to whine about no ganks til 6 (when, btw, his ult only does about 500 dmg to champs and has a minute thirty cooldown barring CDR runes.

I have 146,000 mastery points on Chogath. To be fair, however, I haven't really played him much this season, and I always built him full ap.

When you have item 3165 item 3285 item 3089 item 3116 item 3157 item 3158 , you can burst just fine. Not to mention his q has a 1.0 ap ratio, as well as a knock-up and a slow. Late game that is so much power on a single ability that one good usage can blow flashes or just flat out get you a kill.

His full combo, q flash w ult ignite, will cc someone for a solid 4 seconds, as well as do the vast majority of their hp, or just kill them. He also counters assassins, which is nice in this meta.

Fair enough. I normally play Cho Jungle or Support personally, so his burst tends to be either very slow coming or non-existant. Both of those roles he tends to build better as an AD/AS tank (similar to jungle Tryndamere) than AP, just because all of the AP stuff takes a ton of gold to build. By the time you've got your first item and basic boots everyone else has 3 items.

You should at least try him out mid lane ap. If nothing else it is a ton of fun. Level 6 with ignite and item 3108 item 1056 you can one shot most mid laners.

Yet this change make him broken in aram. 5k full ap build, his Q alone does more damage than some mages several spells combined, it has very, very strong CC, the hitbox of it is also quite missleading, its range is big and it also activates quite fast. He is one of the few remaining champs to have a silence in his kit, and it is an AoE at that. His ult has no counterplay, except using heal and run from him, but that's not always easy, when 4 other players cc you, slow you and so on. I believe he would be more viable and balanced, if his E got a rework, so that his power gets transfered equally in all his abilities. Currently Q+W can almost delete a squishy without big MR and if he still lives R finishes the job. On paper he is extremely strong and easy, a single Q can decide teamfights , but still he seems underwhelming. That is because he is crying for a rework. His kit worked best 3 seasons ago, when only a few champions had flashes, dashes and such in their kits. Now almost any new champ comes with some form of positioning tweaks and/or CC to kite him forever and many core items also offer movement % bonus.
