Yuumi Thoughts

Saezio··6 votes·8,680 views

I'd like to track yuumi playstyles (I know it's still early) Please keep each different way of playing the champ in separate discussion chains(?) if you can.

Mainly wanna track if people use summoner 4 on her or would rather go for double offensive sums or a heal tp combo maybe to assist whatever lane needs it.

Also, do you buy boots on her? Seems pretty redundant.

Finally, KEYstones?

Edit: skill order and minor runes would be nice to debate too if you want :)

She really needs a lot of early game damage buffers to be threatening in the laning phase so I use:

Summon Aery > Manaflow Band > Absolute Focus > Scorch > Shield Bash > Revitalize

Absolute Focus is a controversial pick I decided to go for. While she can easily overcap CDR, I actually don't think CDR is as important to her WHEN COMPARED TO other supports. Since she can easily not take any damage at all, I find Absolute Focus to be quite reliable with its laning phase power.

I tried many strange builds, but I can say this one thing for certain: item 3174 Athene's Unholy Grail is core. Her E is almost useless without it. A generic AP Healer build is quite good for a support all the way into the mid game, but it's quite difficult to carry with and doesn't scale that well late game.

One strange thing I did find with trying various items is that item 3030 Hextech GLP-800 is more useful than even item 3285 Luden's Echo on her. I discovered this while trying Glacial Augment (which sucks btw, don't even bother) and found that the item 3145 Hextech Revolver actually proves as a strong incentive to use her passive. The slow makes it an optimal choice for when your team dives the enemy since Yuumi Yuumi can jump on the diver and use Hextech GLP-800 to slow them.

Being extremely blunt, I seriously believe Yuumi Yuumi requires item 3089 Rabadon's Deathcap for supportive purposes. Now I know how the meme goes that the support builds literally only damage and the support somehow has more kills than the ADC, but Yuumi's W literally transfers her own AP as damage for whoever she connects to. I don't like the idea of a Yuumi rushing item 3285 Luden's Echo since that makes her E useless for laning phase, but I do find that in the AP Healer build, she is a much better support if she has item 3089 Rabadon's Deathcap as one of her final items.

As for boots, Interestingly enough, I think she could use boots. I don't think item 1001 Boots of Speed is useful, but I do find that item 3020 Sorcerer's Shoes helps her damage output quite a bit. Another thing is that her Zoomies heal is still largely good for its ridiculously high AP ratio on a movement speed haste. Having larger base movement speed would scale with well with AP in that regard when she's not attached.

I don't know about you but I get very sad when I see I'm up against Blitzcrank, Thresh, or Pyke. When the ADC gets Yoinked, it's just such a bad spot that Yuumi can't really do anything to save them. Which is double yikes since she is most likely attached as well. I know this sounds unprofessional, but I feel that if the ADC got summoner 21 barrier instead and Yuumi has summoner 7 heal then that situation wouldn't be a problem. However, everyone would just think that's a fucking meme, even though it's a very real concern.

I am happy to see someone else who gets the impact of item 3174. Its also why the item 3030 becomes viable, Besides helpful cc, the active damage also converts into heals.

Love the item 3174 on the cat. I am having trouble convincing folks about its viability

Im being my usual off meta loving self and rocking Item CDR and Spellbook. So far so good. Fits my playstyle and I am only seeing positive results for picking the kitty.

Try rabadons first/second item. Makes wonders

Talk about Cat in the Hat. item 3089 Yuumi

Since you should basically never be dying (or else you've already become more than useless) a item 3041 is a 1400g 100+ AP and then item 3050 and item 3174 are strong choices.item 3089 is theoretically a good choice, but unless you just scored an 1000g shutdown, it just costs way too much.

Wrathful Chicken2 votes

item 3041 Mejai's is a god send when you get those early kills. I just don't like sitting on it when the ADC is pathetic and can't manage to get any kills. I do like having it in the mid game since there should at least be one person you can attach to who can get a kill somewhere while the roaming happens.

Even then, I don't think item 3041 Mejai's changes the necessity of item 3089 Rabadon's Death-hat. Mejai's certainly is something you'd want to build before Rabadon's, but it's in the same way as how item 3086 Zeal and item 3031 Infinity Edge works. It's not really a one or the other, you want both.

I run unsealed spell book. summoner 14 summoner 3 default SS. I don't buy boots but I do run Magical footware. Warding with a base ms of 330 and her HP pool is suicidal when you don't have vision. Which is strongly implied because if you had vision why would you need to ward. Shes a lot safer to ward with if its maintaining vision, or once your able to swap to blue trinket. Grab reds frequently... your going to want them.

Running Item CDR runes because Its a frequent playstyle of mine, I like the actives functioning on CD comparable to basic ability's. Achieved with ingenious hunter and Cosmic insight runes. Other rune is gonna be Biscuts, free MP and the regin is nice to extend a lane. As I can swap out my SS on cd for options like summoner 7 summoner 13 to extend a push or buy more time before we have to back. Last rune is game to game. Ghost poro is a great vision option, 90% of the time its gonna be my last rune. On very rare matchups ill run cheep shot because my ADC's pick will set me up constantly and I wont have to worrie so much about vision game.

First item tends to be item 3174. The Q and R make stacking it very easy. This enables some Burst Healing, Similar to MMORPGS where your Healers job is to focus on topping off any partymember who drops into a danger range. Consistently I am Putting up 200-400 extra heals in teamfights just off this item.

In lane, if your just attached your playing yuumi subpar imo. Should be clear from the leash how helpful your Cat will be. Did she hat some one and throw out 1-2 Qs? Or did she actually auto it because your basic autos far out DPS the level 1 Adaptive stats W provides.

I try to paint a target on my head then use the kit to keep myself alive. item 3041 <3. If they don't stop me the stacks from Mejais alone push my Q into a realm of capped heal stacks from the item 3174 . The Dark seal tends to give me an idea by match if I want to upgrade or not. Most my deaths come from misplaying, with Yuumi some times the misplay is trusting a teammate to much. I have no issues bailing on some one whos going to die and avoid attatching to folks who do suicidal dives.

Overall I value the item actives a lot. You can swap out SS with the Spellbook when attatched so you almost always have options when hatted. item 3905item 3504 item 2065 are high value on her IMO. Also one of the rare champions I actualy support grabbing item 3030 on. The active works very well when your on a front line teammate and the aoe damage component synergizes very well with item 3174 .

I also intentionally will body block ability's. My personal HP is a usable resource in fights, If I am the last one on my team standing im just as screwed at Max hp as I would be at 50%. So, If some ones gonna get clapped by a skillshot with no hard cc I have no hesitation hopping off into it with Yuumi. I look to interrupt combo/execute mechanics with this. Soft CC is easy, Don't have to think about it, pretty clear cut situations for usefullness. Bit harder is properly Blocking the CC component of combo kits, such as Brand Braum TahmKench. I don't mind taking a hit to prevent a kill, when attached its low effort to just W into an ability but the pay off when right is your teammates live and you just W back onto them.

Counter intuitive, likely to get me some flame. But your gonna notice a skill gap between the Yummi Players who understand when and how to do this.

Tiger581 votes

Lol I wish you could take summoner 13 on sr. You got pretty much everything else right though.

Kai Guy1 votes

You can grab it with unsealed spell book. Full list of SS that are options for that rune On SR is barrier cleanse ignite exhaust flash ghost heal clarity smite teleport.

Incendious1 votes

I personally take flash and I don't buy boots. For capstone (supposing means keystone) I take Aery for obvious reasons.

Saezio1 votes

Yeah I did mean keystone. For some reasons I always call it capstone and it's too late to change xD fingers type on their own.

Why flash though? to get in range for W? Or to run away after your team is dead? Flash+R doesn't seem very useful unless it's a very specific case where you already hit them twice and wanna get the root but your attached isn't moving as you wish. Is there another reason I am not seeing?

Do you go secondary resolve inspo or domination? And do you play her with support items or more AP damage items?

thanks for sharing :)

Incendious1 votes

Flash for all the 3 reasons you meantioned. My runes are: Aery > Manaflow > Trans > Scorch > Bone plating > Revitalize My build is: Watcher's > Unholy grail > Ardent > Luden's > Redemption I haven't had a chance to get to full build because of how short the games are, but I'd go with DCap or Shureliya

Saezio1 votes

Seems like all those 3 reasons cease to exist if you play with a duo on voice though. I don't enjoy picking a summoner to fill holes.

What do you think about ancient coin? Seems pretty good to me for lanes that are hard and you can't poke very much.

Incendious1 votes

It doesn't sound bad, but I think Spellthief's is better. Your Q is one of the best poke abilities in the game and I usually go for a Q > W > aa (passive) > W combo, for which Spellthief's is perfect.

Saezio1 votes

Lanes like Thresh Pyke Blitzcrank is what I am thinking of.

Incendious1 votes

I haven't had a problem with those. If your adc stays close, you can just W back the moment they try to hook you. If your adc betrays you and runs out of your W range, well... goodnight.

AbiwonKenabi1 votes

Landing her Q is fun and tricky to dodge, but I don't think its that strong. Barely does any damage. Its good for chasing or running away I noticed though. Just enough slow for the team to land something else.

Incendious2 votes

Yeah, I later realised that using the words "one of the best" maybe wasn't as good of an idea. I didn't mean "strongest", I meant "most likely/easiest to hit". Sorry about that.

AbiwonKenabi1 votes

Nah, I get it, that makes sense.

I always go coin, when I was taking spellthief's I was averaging 15 minute quests and on coin I can get under 9. Also, since it is cheaper to upgrade, it frees up some money to buy the dark seal. The only time I can see spellthief's being a better option is if you were against a low danger support like TK or Braum (which hardly ever happens these days)

If you're going resolve secondary I recommend font of life over bone plating, you shouldn't be too worried about dying unless you can't stand in minions when you are trying to proc your passive (and in your case, spellthief's)

Elderly Woman1 votes

When I first played her, I had boots and flash. I won the game in just under 30 mins with a 2/8/23 kda right out the litter box! I have since removed all boots and rush Ardent Censer. I haven't given flash much thought yet. I guess that makes a lot of sense. I will now use Cleanse moving forward. Barrier seems a bit overkill since she does that already, but Cleanse... I think you're onto something here. =D I also duo with adc. We ban Morg/Lux every game. So far Ashe seems to be the best adc for Yuumi. Vayne tumbles too much, etc. Ashe is nice and slow, so your Q hits almost all of the time. Just be careful to educate your team on your play style. I tell my team when I Q or Ult, always chase and trust that you will live; never retreat. That Q hunts down enemies very, very well.

Saezio1 votes

I was thinking something like summoner 3 summoner 14 with an adc like draven and rushing censer and athene's (one of the champs that can charge it+ benefit both her and the adc from the passive ap, also MANAAAA)

Another thing, what do you max?

Elderly Woman1 votes

I alternate between Q and E equally. Q (1st) then E then Q then E. - W is dead last.

Tiger581 votes

Jhin is 100% the best ADC for Yuumi. Her q helps his w root, his ad gives her damage, and when he has 6 IEs and she has Zeke's Ardent and 25 stack Mejai's you can get quadra kills for days.

Pika Fox1 votes

No flash, boots 1 (im off the ADC enough to where i want the movespeed to trade and all), guardian.

Saezio1 votes

Have you tried her vs non AI?

Cause I can't really take bot games seriously.

I apologize in advance if you play her on another account and would love to see your match history with her. :) Cheers

Pika Fox1 votes

Its irelevant to the discussion? Guardian is a guaranteed proc on who you want it to proc as youre always on them, the rune tree gives access to multiple heal and defensive runes you desperately need, and can secondary the mage tree.

Other than that, mobility summoners arent nearly as useful on you because you can piggyback on others, so a support with dual offensive sums without unsealed is stupidly powerful on its own. And boots 1 helps with trading when you dismount to make sure you stay in range to proc passive or get a few more autos when youre chasing someone down with ADC and need the extra auto DPS to secure the kill.

Saezio1 votes

I don't think it is irrelevant, because dismounting a lot is hella risky vs actual people, whereas bots are stupid and might not even focus you.

I agree about flash. But again, can't really take bots game any more seriously than professor akali going ADC yuumi and stomping bronzies.

Pika Fox1 votes

No, bots have instant reaction time and will immediately burst you the moment you dismount if they can, same with stealth if you play shaco and attempt to stab lux, instant q flash, then its a tossup if she decides to e/r for the kill or run.

Either way, youre supposed to dismount as yuumi. If youre staying mounted most of the game, youre doing it wrong.

Saezio1 votes

You actually don't understand how actual games are a lot harder than bot games?

When was the last time you lost a bot game. Bot's have the same reaction every time if you don't have altsheimer's you can dodge their shit every time.

I am not saying she shouldn't dismount, I am saying it is x100 harder vs people.

VS bots your adc would win the lane even if you stay at base and they are 1v2, it's not a place to test build efficiency. Idk how else to prove this. Just queue up 5 normals and play yuumi and then 5 bots and play her again and compare your stats.

Pika Fox1 votes

You vastly overestimate the skill of ADCs in general, let alone the ones in bots. You can spoon feed them kills all day, and theyll still do all they can to not get them and feed. ADC mains just arent good in general.

And the only real issues with bots are they are set to flee when low even in situations they can win, and dont rotate as well as they should. Other than that, they play at a respectable level. Its still more than enough to get a feel for the champ to the level you normally play at. Its not like gameplay magically changes.

Saezio1 votes

So, have you actually played her vs people?

You know bots have something like 3% winrate right? And that's intermediate and including troll FFs

DeathBurst2 votes

I learned it the hard way, there is no point in arguing with Pika Fox.

Saezio1 votes

I try to be as polite as possible especially when I am a sort of "host" to the discussion and want people to do the same in the thread. So I am not going to tell you how much I agree with you.

ChaosReyn1 votes

as someone who mains both halves of bot lane, I find this just as insulting as I find it halfway accurate. xD

Incendious1 votes

How can you tell him he's playing her wrong when she came out 2 days ago and literally noone plays her correctly. I don't think there currently even is a "correct" way to play her.

Pika Fox1 votes

She isnt meant to be attached 24/7. You miss out on auto trades/passive and do t get to use your own HP bar as a resource.

Incendious1 votes

She's not meant to be attached 24/7. She is meant to be attached 23/7 and unattach only for passive/wards/blocking skillshots.

ChaosReyn1 votes

That's...not entirely true. It's more like 20/5. And your goal shouldn't necessarily be to just block the skillshots...more like bait the skillshots, attach, land Q, detach and poke, then reattach.

The issue I've been seeing are those that stay attached for too long, more than those that stay unattached and get caught. That being said, if you want to try your method, use the aura build.

AbiwonKenabi1 votes

Yeah, I've been stopped by a support Poppy. Best Yuumi lane pattern is to proc passive then W to safety, but Poppy's W actually stops Yuumi's You and Me. I don't think a bot would think to do that.

Póppy Chulo1 votes

I been thinking up a couple combinations. So far my favorite:

Support item: item 3098 Gives AP to stack W passive, ability scalings just a bit more, and 50% mana regen for item 3174 passive.

Keystone: Aery, gets used when you W, used for poke when stacking spellthief, and protects the heal you give to ally.

Masteries: flowband, transcendence(optionally absolute focus), gathering storm. I take future market(i dont get to use biscuits, i barely get to use the 2 health pots) and 5% cdr. ~I considered ravenous hunter with poro, but not sure.

Spells: Heal Exhaust if ally takes tp/heal. Heal Ignite if they take Heal. I have considered TP, but not sure.

Ability Order: Q > E > E. Max E, put a point into W when you have to, max W, then max Q. Q is only for the support item and slow.

Boots: I just dont use them.. I think yuumi is so useful with so many items, which is why the next part is long. You can optionally take cdr boots if you want, helps with transcendence.

Items: item 3174 , then item 3504 . As mentioned before, athenes +5 ap per 25% mana is pretty nice for W. item 3107 adds healing, active, and 150% mana regen. Thats a big number! Landing Q gives a bunch of Athenes stacks too, so you can Q E, land Q then E again and proc athene twice.

item 1082item 3041 : you can take this if you believe your ally wont run it down and if you can stack it, further buffing W.

item 3089: wow. Does this give ap. More Ap for W, also increasing with athenes mana regen items. Yuumi ap per level is surprisingly high btw. Its especially good with allies that build a lot of damage themselves.

Other possible items i wont go indepth with: (Mostly because my games dont last long enough) item 3905 item 2065 item 3030 item 3109 item 3190 item 3056

Ackelope1 votes

I wouldn't bother consider taking TP, Yuumi is quite wholeheartedly a supportive champion, her solo presence is almost nothing, as her strongest damage ability is many times stronger when attached, and your ally can take TP for you and TP you to lane when you're attached. Seems like a waste of a slot on Yuumi to me.

Tiger581 votes

That's a spicy ohmwrecker

SanKakU1 votes

I'm not currently playing her but if I was...

Summoner Spells I'm not sure about. But I would probably go double defensive runes. Maybe Barrier and Heal? Would definitely buy boots. Ninja Tabi seems like a great choice. I'm going to be jumping pretty often so I can try to make use of Shield Bash.

Keystone I'm unsure about.

Ravenous Hunter could be good depending on the strategy. Any extra CDR might be nice. I think there's a lot to try out when it comes to runes.

Ability learning order, I'd probably try out lots of stuff in that regard.

Saezio1 votes

I don't know, you spend quite a bit of time attached, not to mention W range isn't half bad to hover at it's max range from your adc to poke the enemy/proc a passive and be safe by having the option to W back to adc

So, boots don't seem quite useful, if she isn't attached and she is in someones range she is the squishiest champion by far so boots won't help I don't think.

SanKakU1 votes

Ninja Tabi will be nice for those times when your lane partner just needs a meat shield and your abilities aren't ready to be cast anyway. They don't absolutely need the boost from your W 24/7. Sometimes they just need someone tanking for them.

ChaosReyn1 votes

Some strange brew build idea I came up with:

Runes - Guardian/FontofLife/BonePlating/Revitalize||ManaflowBand/AbsoluteFocus

Items - item 3303 + item 2003 (x2) -> item 3107 item 3030 item 3020 -> item 3001 item 3190 item 3110

Why? - This build was conceived to take advantage of her attachment by using auras and the active from frostbelt, and also to allow her while unattached to not care about catching a few hits. Yuumi is probably one of a few champions with the potential to use the full strength of Absolute Focus throughout the large majority of a teamfight. With the ability to passively lower attack speed and MR of enemies her carrier is near to with FH and AM, this enables her to more fearlessly protect frontliners and cause these fancy-pants Yi/Xin OTPS to think twice before diving on their backline and getting exploded.

I haven't gotten to test it yet...honestly, I'm extremely sure people are taking one look at this right now and already saying "this is trash, she's AP!" But A lot of people said full AP Rakan is garbage too, and full AP Rakan is actually strong enough to be jungle viable with a good early leash, and scary as hell if he gets ahead. My off-meta ways are tingling, so when I finally get to play her, I'd love to see if this tanky/aura goddess route works at all.

Edit: Yes, I am aware there's more items there than space - that's because not every game is the same, and you're not always going to want the exact same items every time, or always in the same order. If their team was 4 AD, for example, I'd smash that Frozen Heart probably right after Frostbelt. If you don't have any AP, there's really not much point getting Abyssal. etc...

I go summoner 7 summoner 3 , no boots (just ask your ADC to take you with them to lane), and I have been using Aery because of the interaction with attaching giving a shield even if you have no passive shield, but I'm open to other ideas being better. Additionally, I buy item 3096 and item 1082 on my first recall and w max (hope this helps you see which direction to go with her).
