What is this match making?

so in champ select everything good looks like a decent team everyone is nice and polite.... then as loading in check op.gg and get slightly nervous as 2 are unranked on my team... and normally just 1 can toss the game. as anticipated the two unranked got stomped in lanes and then were useless after.... how can one team have 2 that are unranked and another have none? I get it's going by mmr but mmr from normals shoudl not be used for ranked / should be dropped way down until the 10 games are done. Just frustrating how you can pretty much predict what will happen while loading in and yet still be helpless to stop it... So how are teams like this set up?
