Why get rid of Banner of Command?

Banner of Command should not be removed from the game. It should just be nerfed/tweaked, just like with other items that were in similar condition. If you get rid of banner you might as well get rid of Ohm wrecker, zzrot, and rift herald, because those help pushing. Other items that where considered op were nerfed such as black cleaver, warmogs, and the support items gold generation. So why didn't riot remove those? It's almost lazy to just delete a unique item instead of tweaking it to where it is only purchased in certain situations.

Banner of command is either useless or overpowered. Ohmwrecker has some fringe cheese possibilities. Zz'rot is much easier to balance than Banner.

I barely ever see Banner of Command, but saw one in my last match, and that promoted minion was surprisingly tough to kill. Kind of annoying, but I'm not sure what else the use is for it. It says the promoted minion rewards the caster kill gold, does that mean off Minion kills or just champ kills it accidentally tags?

Same reason they removed DFG

This is quoted directly from "Quick Gameplay Thoughts: June 8" - As you might have seen we’re going to remove Banner from the game in 8.12, at least for the short-medium term. It's an item that's pretty consistently been either a poor choice or, when strong, been unhealthy for the game overall. Not impossible some heavily revised version returns someday, likely in a preseason or midseason if so. No immediate plans for that however.

That's the reason, and it's likely not gone for good.

They can't balance it. So they removed it.

They're DFG'ing it.

40% damage reduction is still an annoying thing to kill.
