Would a shift towards base stats over items make LoL more fun?

Would shifting champion power more towards base stats and base numbers, make the game more fun?

I am not talking huge. I am talking like, shifting 10-15% of the power out of items, 0-10% out of runes and masteries. And putting those in base stats. I feel this might make the game easier to balance and more fun. Since being ahead would still give an advantage, but not nearly as strong of one. I also feel this would encourage more roaming, more objectives and more teamwork over ceaseless farming for items. Obviously some items and assassins, would have to be adjusted in manners that prevent all assassins from just going tank. But, I am a noob who doesn't play Ranked.

So... opinions?

This would include taking power from tank items, utility items and so forth. ALL items and putting it into base stats. Since assassin base stats would = assassin stats, it would actually discourage that. Because they couldn't buy enough tank stats for it to matter.

you're not talking about a significant enough change to make it where they can't build tanky, you're saying 10-15%. That will only make it easier for them to build tanky while still doing a lot of damage, because they'll either only need a damage item or two, or be able to build full tank if their base stats are high enough.

That depends on what direction they take assassin base stats, and how they redesigned the items.

I like being able to do off-builds, so no, I wouldn't like this change.

An excellent point. Thank you for your imput. I don't feel it would destroy off builds. But at this point, off builds are becoming near impossible anyway, when one crops up Riot destroys it by nerfing the items or that aspect of the champion anyway.

Nope. Why make games longer?

Nope. Why make games longer?

How would encouraging roaming, discouraging farm fests make the games longer? Currently games last 30-50 minutes despite all attempts to make them 'shorter' through encouraging excessive snowballing. Still as long as ever. Clearly that isn't the answer, it just has made the gameplay more toxic.

Heroes of the storm has much more action, teamfights, roaming and shorter matches. Largely because of the lack of farming.

No, that would just make the game more boring by streamlining the champions too much. Also, complexity doesn't necessarily make the game harder to balance. Dota is one of the most complex mobas that is popular and it is much better balanced than league is.

Streamlining the champions is not necessarily bad. New Poppy is 100x better designed than old Poppy.

And new poppy is also a more intricate champion. The old poppy was a complete mess and didn't fit into anything.

Streamlining champions in a moba specifically is a bad thing. Otherwise the game just becomes boring like hots.

Old Poppy fit into the role of an anti-carry.

anti-carries lost their meaning though, so new poppy is a tank.

E.G. take more ideas from HotS? One would think Riot's done enough of that this season already.

Well I mean, the philosophy that made Blizzard rich is, 'take idea, polish the living crap out of it'

Old poppy was a terrible anti-carry. His main damage source was for shredding tanks while the rest of his moveset was more for diving carries. He didn't really fit well into anything.

Also, the fact that blizzard in theory should have a ton of experience in the whole "take idea, polish the living crap out of it" and yet heroes of the storm was such a failure kind of shows just how flawed the game was. It had such a strong backing and foundation that literally all it had to do to compete with dota and league was not be complete garbage and it somehow couldn't manage to do that.

You mean how Poppy could easily instakill any carry in the game was meant for shredding tanks?

The problem with Heroes is actually this, it competes with League. Much like how WoW remained the juggernaut of MMO's for years, and is only now facing real competition after twelve years. League of Legends is the juggernaut of the format, and it's fan base is too big to compete with. Another problem with heroes, is that they started to look to League for what made people find watching it as an esport interesting, and made everything super mobile and bursty just like League, instead of sticking to their original plan.

Anything to make it less snowball-y would make it more fun imo.
