AP to AD imbalance in Runes

So, a pretty standard AD page (not for ADC particularly, just a page with AD) is:

  • AD Reds
  • Armor Yellows
  • MR/LvL Blues
  • AD Quints

That's a fairly standard page, you have defense against physical damage, scaling defense against magic damage, and some AD.

Pretty standard AP page would look something like this:

  • MPen Reds
  • Armor Yellows
  • AP (or AP/LvL) Blues
  • AP Quints

Again, these are fairly standard pages but, does anyone else find it odd that AP pages can have 3 rune slots allocated to Offense without losing any "primary slot efficiency"?

I think I would actually prefer it if ALL OFFENSE runes were "primary" to Marks (reds), all Defensive runes were primary to Seals (yellow), and all other utility type things (CDR, MS, Gold/10 etc.) were blue. With Quints being "taster's choice" so to speak.

Thoughts?

EDIT: on another side note, with a setup like what I have here, you'd actually have to change your rune pages around to deal with each team comp that you were against, promoting "strategic diversity".

Runes in general need reworking, and I have no idea why Riot hasn't ever fixed them.

They spend each season balancing Masteries, but Runes get left in the dust.

Any other thoughts on this?

You could run AD or AS yellows but thats not optimal cause minions do AA damage. The AR yellows everyone runes is for tower hits, ganks ect. Mid lane is the short lane and a lot of mids make it even safer by having escape abilities.

Not all mids take AP blus though. A farm focus player will take MR blus for their play style. Some hyper aggressive people might take pen blus instead of AP if the ratios are not a big deal. Mids have more options that you are saying. Its all about the play style you want to promote.

The reason why pro steamers never take defensive blu is cause they are arrogant in their play. They think they are going to win and out play every time. You do see this back fire time to time though (IEM UOL v TSM).
