Can We Have a Serious Discussion About ARAM "Random"ness???

So tired of getting matchups like this in ARAM (my team was the Nami).

It seems like more and more games in ARAM as of late have been completely one-sided. In the example given above, we would try to initiate on the enemy team (once we hit 6) and they just kited backwards every time. They had us constantly pushed to turret (via Heimer, AP Janna, and Caitlyn Q), they constantly poked at us (like playing a bullet hell game, if I wanted that I'd play Touhou).

There's also the fact that, in blind pick, you can have the same champion on both teams (the dreaded mirror matchup). Since ARAM is Blind Pick, if it were truly random, there would be mirror matchups from time to time. Not only have I never seen an ARAM mirror matchup, but neither have ANY of the people I have spoken with about the matter.

Add in the number of times that I've rerolled a champion, only to see it on the other team when the game starts up, and I get the feeling that a pool of ~20 or so champions are picked prior to the champ select starting, the dishing out the champions from there. With the number of OBSCENELY one sided games I've seen, I'd also say it "randomly" places the champions on their teams based on synergy (at least to some extent).

Everything I've seen thus far completely dissuades me from trying to play another ARAM, because it honestly makes me feel like Riot has determined which team should win, and then 5 people are lucky before the game even starts. This doesn't make for even a remotely fun game in, what should be, a "specifically for fun" game mode.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

During the pool party event i had 48 champions available First 3 games with a group of 5 Vlad Varus Varus I take a break and the next ARAM game i play Vlad I think it's essentially random blind draft which actually narrows the pool a bit. If you have X and reroll, someone can reroll and wind up with X. One day i got maokai 3 times in 5 games. That shouldn't be possible with 39-50 possible champions for me to get.

Lol...your team is actually incrediblly op for ARAM...you have 4 AoE ults, who all have hard cc which is also AoE (Lissandra's stun is single target but she slows in an AoE) plus Master Yi who is insanely good in ARAM if played correctly...there is no way they can disengage all of that if you play it a bit smart. Their team is not bad for ARAm either, tons of poke and safety but as someone who has played over 1000 ARAMs I definitely favour your team.

Completely tangential from the main point of the post but your team should not be kitable.

You have Sej/J4/Liss hard engage, if you just blew up the Janna before your stun chain ended they'd have no way to disengage from that.

This is a pretty salty approach what you did. First off, Sejuani, Yi, Jinx and Cait had a good item build, the others are trash.

ARAM is never supposed to be full random. Your champion is most likely selected from those which are available to all the other 9 people, additionally, you have a good chance to play the champion you played in your last few games. You have less control on what champion you get and you have less room to conflict about champ select/trade stuff. That is part of the fun for me.

Overall I'd say NO, we can't have a SERIOUS discussion HERE lol Usually the worst ARAM player are who complain.

Aram randomness = rigged af. Not to mention whenever I reroll I usually get Lissandra from nowhere, I feel like playing with her is my destiny. Never ever have I ever gotten OP Aram champs. (Ashe Heimerdinger Jinx Lux Velkoz Xerath Ziggs) from my rerolls such a stupid system.

I have a pool of 100 champions so for me it feels quite random... I get my favorites from time to time but I also get some weird picks.

I've been playing ARAM a lot lately and this struck me as well. To be fair, I don't really have many champions (roughly ~25) but I always get the same Varus, Annie, Tristana or Lulu. Not that they are bad, but I get them many times in a row, Annie being the most frequent one.

Every once in a while I get someone different, maybe from the rotation, but then I'm back to the fantastic four.

This year first time i've seen Taric when i picked him with no rerolls.

Enemy side like always has sona.

Rito y u do dis?

It's really shamefull of Riot that "Maps & modes" section is never visited by red text and anything important should be written in here otherwise noone would read this.

I wonder, with so many Rioters responsible with communication why don't we see them more often? Do they just get the money and "mkay boss, c ya in next month"? If so then please hire me! I can slack 24h/week with no difficulty! Almost on your level!

DoctorInju7/5/2015, 11:32:45 AM3 votes

Sona has a 65% win rate on Howling Abyss.

I just wish they would change it so that every champion is available, whether you own it or not. Allow one reroll per game, but make the whole team vote on it and reroll everyone if the majority decides to.

Bronx Corp7/5/2015, 11:50:47 AM3 votes

Maybe you see some champs more than others because more people like to play them and therefore

  1. more people buy them
  2. more people reroll when they get a champ they dont like

the result some champs come up a lot more than others

Arams feel like the winning team is decided before the match even begins. One team has global spells and auto attacks, and the other team gets three shot under the tower. Unless you're a hive mind, as the melee team, your engages will never be in sync. Somebody always dives in 1v5 before a fight even starts. The amount of times I've come back from a melee V.S ranged match can be counted on one hand.

Kittenpaste Co7/5/2015, 11:53:57 AM2 votes

I had an ARAM today of 4 ADC and a Fiddlesticks vs 4 Melee and an ADC. That was the most one-sided bullshit I've ever had. ADCs build to shred tanks, so we couldn't do a think against them.

You think they are decided before the game starts? I had 30min long ARAM game with 3 AFKs since 5th minute of the game and we almost won 2v5.

Stackless Python7/5/2015, 11:50:57 AM2 votes

Make all champions free in ARAM, stops the rigging and makes the gamemode focus on fun as it should.

Acadiaum7/5/2015, 11:54:11 AM2 votes

When I made a smurf I had a few mirror matches in aram... I think

FistOfSharkiesha7/5/2015, 2:31:56 PM2 votes

Your teamcomp is actually good... Not as good as the enemy team but good. You should have rushed Athene's not morello's.

I got Alistar three games in a row back when I played a lot of ARAM. Upon the third lobby as Alistar I dodged and stopped playing it often.

I just don't think the reroll should be limited over all of the games. If I want to try to get a different champ I don't want to be punished the next few matches.

LordGeovanni7/6/2015, 3:32:31 AM2 votes

you rarely get champions you dont play on aram the same cycle of champions you play on normals have a greater probability of showing up

Cindikle7/9/2015, 8:59:06 PM1 votes

In all honesty. Your team would of stomped them once everyone was 6.

If it wasn't for Janna.

shark music7/6/2015, 12:12:58 PM1 votes

Team balance is usually more about who is good at playing what. Like in your example above. Your team isn't actually weaker, you just got champions who require more skill to play than they did.

ARAM is the only thing I really play. I wish the champion selection were anything like random. I have ninety-something champions, and there are about a dozen of them that I see ten times more than all the others. I just find it annoying, but from the standpoint of people who have to play against me, it's sort of unfair. I'm almost always the top score in my games, and that wouldn't happen so much if I was forced to play all of my champions equally, instead of constantly being handed someone I've already played twice in the last five games.

Drunk Rummate7/6/2015, 3:22:20 PM1 votes

I've noticed that I tend to get a lot of the same champions over and over in ARAM. Maybe it's random but I swear sometimes it feels rigged. Probably something to do with aram only accounts.

Shosuko7/6/2015, 12:22:11 AM1 votes

I think it's less about the randomness of ARAM, and more about the rigged accounts people set up.

Start a new account Unlock 10-15 OP aram champs ....

Profit.

What Riot should do with ARAM is make it completely random! Every champ available for every player, period. Otherwise it gets rigged too much by bias accounts. It's just ridiculous to play ARAM on an account with almost every champ unlocked and expect to get anything but !@#$ every time, meanwhile someone with only a dozen champs unlocked gets dream rolls every game... Coincidence? I think not.
