Hitboxes and Ranges

I recently played a game as Ryze against Darius (I was Ryze), and I was aware that Ryze's Rune Prison has a 50 range advantage over Darius' Apprehend, so I assumed I was safe to kite the Darius hard and kick his skull in safely. Needless to say (I wouldn't be posting if that went smoothly), this was not the case.

On two separate occasions I Rune Prisoned him in order to get off some harass/stop him from walking at me/be a pest because I had no creeps to cs myself. Theoretically, if my W has the 50 range advantage, he could try to pull all he wants and catch nothing but air; instead of catching nothing but air, he pulled me in to my death.

After the first time I figured I must have stepped into Darius just far enough after the Rune Prison for him to be able to pull me, until the second time when i Rune Prisoned him and used the "Stop" command to prevent the earlier event from occurring and he pulled me to my death for a second time. I started playing safer after this and only died one other time (in a team fight) that game, but it got me thinking.

I found out that apparently skill-shot based abilities have a different range calculation from targeted (edge to edge instead of center to center.) I can understand if this difference would cover the 50 range advantage I mentioned in this particular matchup, but it makes me wonder what the size of the champions' hitboxes are.

Is there anywhere where I can get the size (in the same units as the range and MS of champs) of all the champions? I feel like the misinformation I went into that match with caused some bad plays on my part (due to not fully understanding how the ranges worked) and I would have played that matchup completely different were I properly informed.

Just curious as to the sizes of the hitboxes if anyone knows where I can find them.

Thanks in advance <3

As far as I know, "distance" measurements have always been pretty ambiguous in LoL, which is kind of unfortunate. I think one metric was that Teemo had a diameter of 100 units, and a caster minion 60. I think. Of course that's not an easy ruler for measuring out range in the game. It doesn't help that autoattack and ability ranges have different implications.

There was a discussion on the Wikia a while ago about how some of the ranges may not even be accurately listed!

So I know distance is hard to measure, but it would be nice if there was consistency in range, not only in being accurately listed but also if autoattacks and abilities followed the same rules. I wonder if something like a sandbox mode might be useful as well, not just for testing distances but any aspect of the game.

Nobody even realized that Darius may continue walking towards Ryze during cast time .... However it IS true about edge to edge for Darius (or hitbox to edge really), whereas Ryze has to target Dyroni's center, I think this is roughly a 25 unit difference, probably slightly less than 50, and it's the cast time here that gets you.

Once upon a time Riot staffers went on the forums and talked about how "Burden of knowledge" is a bad thing for the health of the game.

Look up a champion ability, see a number that indicates the range. Look up a different champion ability, see a different number that indicates range.

But like the OP said, those numbers don't relate to one another (even though they are both listed as "Range") because of the way that things are calculated. That places a "Burden of Knowledge" on the player to have learned at some point that these two numbers don't mean the same thing.
