Convert Veigar's Basic Attacks To Magic Damage

Okay, so the other day I made a post about how I think there should be SOME champions with basic attacks that deal magic damage instead of physical damage.

See the full post here

The idea seemed to go pretty well. Currently sitting at a sum of 49 votes in the positive and over 100 comments (about half of the comments were mine, so if you comment something relevant, I will most likely respond)

But the overall post was very vague and it seems like people failed to understand that I was not suggesting that EVERY champion who visually attacks with magic should deal magic damage.

There should be some careful consideration in deciding which champions get this change because basic attacks give a champion the means to deal sustained damage. If a mage, that usually relies on their abilities to apply burst damage, gains the ability to deal sustained damage as well, this would be a significant buff to them.

One of the comments brought up Veigar, and this made me think about him as a specific example.

Due to Veigar's passive, even if he builds full Attack Damage, he is able to accumulate Ability Power.

This gives him the ability to deal a mixture of magic and physical damage, both sustained and burst damage.

By having Veigar's basic attacks scale in the same way (based on Attack Damage) but changed so they deal magic damage instead of physical damage, he is able to be more effectively countered by magic resistance.

This is just an example of how this could be applied.

There might also need to be considerations made for how critical strikes scale.

Wouldn't this just be a nerf to his early-game since any AA harass he tries will be further mitigated by the enemy's MR being higher than their Armor?

Having mages do magic damage on their autos would just mean they get doubly fucked over by Hexdrinker.

Most mages don't really use their basic attacks as their main source of damage, so if anything I would see this as a way of discouraging AD builds.

Honestly, the idea is for it to be a nerf, but it would also be likely to cause a buff for the champion in other ways.

Sad, but true [sg-lulu]

Considering how easily veigar whipes an entire team off the surface of the planet already, i'd suggest we don't add anything like this considering we already have item 3115 for the champs that actually need onhit AP as well as item 3100

I don't think you understand what I'm suggesting.

I'm not suggesting that his damage be increased, just applied as magic damage instead of physical.

So what if he gets Nashors or Lich Bane, .. he deals just as much magic damage as he would currently. But if someone is building MR, he is less effective.

It isn’t adding any damage or scaling, only a conversion.

i dont have any issue with this... considering to would be a _nerf_to him...

its one thing to have an a skill that empowers and auto which scales both AD and AP and have conversion to full ap.

this can be found on skills like Nidalee takedown.. which is an auto attach but deal all if its damage as AP.. even if u went bruiser nid as in season 4.

and was a very good was of by passing armor. ( you know back when armor actually meant something [sg-lulu] )

but why on earth u would want your autos to be AP? that would suck..

the only reason from an AD to AP conversion is to get the OPness of AD items to convert to AP damage like Corki or Warwick

it would just be a flat nerf to make Veigar autos AP
