Lux evaluation/nerf ideas from a filthy Lux Main

so I think after having played Lux for awhile now since her quality of life buffs, and seeing her be successful on players with less experience with her than mains its clear to me that Lux is in an overtuned state. While Lux i feel will always teeter on the high win rate side due to the nature of her kit/safety, there ARE some things about her I feel are a little oppressive and may have put her over the top. So to evaluate Lux I wanted to point out her strengths and weaknesses in her current state/kit.

STRENGTHS:

1.) Easy to Land Harass 2.) Strong utility with Shield/Slow/Double Binding 3.) Huge Range, especially with ultimate 4.) Great Full Combo Burst

WEAKNESSES:

1.) Very High Mana Costs 2.) Very long cooldowns without CDR items 3.) Base Stats make her one of the most vulnerable Champions in the game 4.) Immobile and easy to explode when caught out

Now, you might look at these at first glance and be like "well that seems balanced enough". And sure, even as a Lux main I can honestly say for awhile now I haven't felt that that was overtuned. Her E's damage is very negligible if you do not proc the passive in lane, and the passive makes her vulnerable. For me though, I feel the biggest thing I have noticed as a Lux main is that I can throw out Q on cooldown when it is safe to do so. And that means opportunities to catch and kill my opponent. I can wittle down with E's until kill is prepped. All I have to do is land a Q at this point. the problem is, due to low mana cost on Q I am able to just throw it out constantly in hopes I catch my opponent. there are drawbacks to this, If i get caught by jungler, etc. I'm screwed. If its an enemy laner like Talon/Zed/Kassadin I am now being zoned out for the duration, but even then...the punishment is not enough. I do not go OOM from throwing out these bindings ever and I rarely feel its a bad idea to throw out a binding if I have managed my wave well. If i have the wave in a spot where I can retreat to tower quickly, then I can throw out bindings with little to no consequence. I feel this is a part of what puts Lux over the top.

Alternatively, I also feel the cooldowns on Q and E are kind of backwards. You can't really nerf the damages of Lux because without passive, they are not that high. and her ultimate, is her ultimate. if she catches you with a snare you should be dead. plain and simple. However, the E cooldown is a flat 10 seconds at all ranks, while the binding starts at 15 and eventually gets down to 11. personally I feel these cooldowns should be flipped. the E cooldown early on in the game when the mana cost hasn't increased yet is a no brainer to throw out and harass all day. Until it is ranked up it doesn't feel like there is much decision as is the idea of "throw this out on cooldown". The Q getting a shorter cooldown would amplify her ability to catch people out and be a sniper, and honestly is the harder skillshot of the two. Good Lux's land their Q, bad ones don't. The E cooldown being lowered at earlier ranks and 1 second higher at max rank would make her more vulnerable for longer times early on as you will have a bigger window to aggress on her, especially if you can indeed dodge her E.

And lastly while I do not feel Lux needs any damage nerfs whatsoever, if you want to make Lux less "safe" the one way to do that is to shift a bit of power from her abilities (mainly E) to her passive. A prime example would be shifting maybe 10% damage from her E to the passive on the AP ratio. this would make the E damage do less by itself, but the same if you proc the passive. Still feel the mana cost is the big culprit, but the other two ideas I mentioned are just alternatives I thought of after playing a fair amount of Lux last season and this season.

I just want to point out that THIS is how you point out champions imbalance and this is proper way to ask for, or suggest ,certain nerfs. Not like "NERF GRAVES HE DO DAMAGE."

I feel like this would reduce her waveclear too much, considering she already isn't exactly the best at it.

I think her utility slow on E should be removed and compensated with more visual revealing with the spell.

This would create a more pronounced weakness without deciding to make her already obscene damage scale more by "compensation".

I don't think switching the Q and E cooldowns would be a great idea; it would be way too punishing when you're laning vs a strong pusher. One of the good things about the current cooldowns is that Lux can use E every time it's off CD if she wants, but she will go OOM very quickly. Also, to the idea of shifting of damage from E into her passive, this would be a damage increase late-game, her full combo procs sunlight twice, or even three times if in auto range at the beginning of the combo.

It may be unpopular, but I think a reasonable nerf would be to reduce her snare duration by 0.5 seconds, or make the duration scale with levels rather than the flat 2 seconds.

Considering Lux's extreme range and relative safety, she doesn't really need such a long snare duration. A shorter snare would encourage her to play more decisively and riskily. Ahri's charm, for example, scales from 1s to 2s at max rank, and she has less range (but more mobility) than Lux. I don't think this kind of nerf would be too punishing.

I disagree. Lowering her q cooldown is a bad idea, as that is her primary cc. That is a very huge buff, and making her e cooldown a bit longer really won't dampen such a potent buff.

You put a lot of "if's" into your statement. If you can land the snare, if you can manage the wave, if the jungler isn't nearby. Lux is not in an overtuned state. The biggest counter to her is a hard-engage composition with item 3102 on the front liners and maybe on the ADC. Once her spells are on cooldown, she is extremely vulnerable. Yes, CDR builds are popular with her, but 4-6 seconds is all you need to take her down.

She procs thunderlords way too easily, that's the issue I personally have with her

I've played a lot of Lux, too, and I feel that the right nerf for her is lower base damage and higher scaling. The purpose and effect would be to make her less of a lane bully early on and force decisions between rushing AP for kill potential or rushing regen/CDR for safety.

good Lux's already rush AP, this would just make her mid and late game absolutely ridiculous. You really only need to rush your CDR/regen item if you are in a lane where you have a hard matchup anyway (yasuo, morgana, viktor) and even then, if you are looking to get a lead, AP is always the way to go. having cdr/regen means little if you aren't doing damage. and her base damages are low as is. lowering them further would just make her abilities basically tickle and then do absurd damage once you get AP. with higher ratios you could chunk people out of the fight with a single E. you wouldn't even need to land your binding anymore. no one wants that.

I see the idea here, but i personally feel her base damages are already pretty low. I mean rank 1, the E only has a base damage of 60 level 1. levels 1-3 Lux isn't as oppressive. it isn't until you are level 5 ish where you get some points in E and can spam your Q endlessly that she becomes an issue. levels 1-3 Lux has to proc her passive and you can avoid that and trade back with her. certain champs cant do it well like Leblanc at level 1, but others easily can. try to get your passive proc on a Zed and watch him kite you back with shurikens. and post level 3 dear god you never wan to go in for that passive proc if his Shadow is up as his rotation will chunk you for way more than that passive is worth.

There are plenty of champions who proc Thunderlord's easily, Lux isn't special in that regard.

I don't understand where all the crying about Lux is coming from. This is the first meta that she has actually been effective as a standard pick other than Season 1 where there were so few champions to begin with (and even then, she wasn't played as often as Malz or Morde or Brand). Nerfing her now would be stupid, because then we will get another instance of Taric. She will then be balanced for the current meta, and then be worthless when it changes.

Learn how to beat her. It isn't that difficult. Sure, a good Lux is oppressive, but so is a good ANY champion. She is not special in any way.

as someone who legitimately mains this champion, she is overtuned. not "OP" or "broken" but definitely too strong.

She is not too strong. At all. People just don't want to play what "isn't in meta", so she is running rampant. And what isn't in meta right now is hard engage fighters. It's Marksmen. Of course she is getting attention. The class she was designed to beat is the most played.

People need to learn to not just follow the fotm. Once they learn that, then a lot of the champion balance complaints will go away.

She's maintained the same incredibly high combined winrate and pickrate for the last 5 months.

Trust me. It isn't "this meta". It's Lux.

She needs a nerf on her ult cd, just too low for semi global, shitload of aoe damage ability. Every lux in diamond just throws random ults here and there, and where you are about to strike to abuse the lack of it, she got it up again. With some cdr you can drop its cd to around 30 sec i belive? Thats bullshit.
