A Veteran Silver Player's Take on the Patch
Hey guys, I felt like doing this, so I did. A bit of background: I've been Silver for the past 4 seasons, mostly because I'm too lazy to grind, despite doing all the requisite climbing homework (champion knowledge, macro play, etc.) and I'd like to share my thoughts on the most recent patch from the perspective of someone who loves League and has a desire to win and improve, but also understands that not everyone is going to go pro.
I have played this game A LOT. Probably somewhere close to 6500 games across 4 accounts over the last 7 years, so while I may not have some crazy high rank, I've been around the block enough to know basically what I'm talking about.
I'll just go section by section, following along with the notes, separated by titles.
CHAMPIONS
Irelia: Cool, I like the new Irelia, she seems fun. I just got done testing her out in a custom 4v5 and it was a blast!
Gragas: Glad to see some love for the town drunk, he used to be one of my go-to midlaners way back when.
Elise: She definitely needed some love. Elise has been falling off since the end of League of Warmog's, glad to see my second-favorite shapeshifter getting a bit of attention.
Hecarim: I guess. I wish the game would move away from sustained teamfights instead of adapting champions to fit into them better. I miss the times when it was more about individual play than team synergy.
Ivern: Sweet! Ivern is hilarious, and super fun to play, even if I'm absolute trash at him. Glad to see this.
Karthus: I don't know about this. His weakness in lane is supposed to be his main point of counterplay. We'll see what happens but I don't think shoring up a champions main identifiable weakness is the right call.
Kayn: Good! This will be great for Kayn, especially if the enemy team doesn't have enough of the champions you need to get the form you want and you have to wait for the cooldown. Some concern for this making top lane Kayn hit his Rhaast power spike too early but we'll see.
Leona: Ok. I mean, not much of a change here but cool I guess, her AP ratios are crap anyway.
Lux: I'll be honest I haven't picked up Lux since her last set of changes so I'm not too sure how this will affect her.
Malphite: 80 second ult at max rank. Let's hope you haven't created a monster, rito.
Nocturne: I've always thought Nocturne has stayed in a relatively good spot. I like this change; subtle but noticeable.
Olaf: Meh... I mean... what about people who don't take Predator on Olaf? Where's the compensation? Personally I prefer Conqueror, even in the jungle. I feel like this one could have been handled better.
Quinn: Cool, bugfixes, I'm down.
Rengar: Please be careful. As much as I love knifecat, being one-shot with no warning is completely not fun. This makes it easier for him to snowball to that point.
Rumble: Where the hell has Rumble been anyway? I haven't even thought about him in ages. Good, I'm glad he's getting something.
Sejuani: You are designing the game around longer teamfights. I don't get it. Long teamfights are anti-fun.
Shaco: I agree with the first part, disagree with the second. Leave the crazy bastard with his crazy damage, he falls off anyway.
Swain: Neat! Now do the same thing for every passive in the game with a cooldown and we're talking. Still not sure if he was THAT broken. He's pretty easy to play around. I like it though.
Warwick: So THAT's why I kept getting bursted down before I could pop my ult as Trynd... I was wondering why Q did so much damage.
Zed: Cool, ninjas are sweet. I might pick up Zed again after this.
ITEMS
Guinsoo's Rageblade: Yeah it was pretty busted at that price, good call.
Locket of the Iron Solari: Yeah shields are dumb, stupid shields.
Ninja Tabi: Alright cool, I only ever bought them to reduce AA damage anyway, I consider this a buff.
Aura Items: LOL! I didn't know that was a thing! That's hilarious! Good fix! XD
Relic Shield Line: I mean... if they are "slightly" outperforming other items, why nerf the passive gold by 75%? That's a lot more than slightly.
RUNES
Resolve Tree: The whole point of runes is to give early game power... whatever man, you could have taken the more challenging but also more rewarding approach of buffing the other trees to make them more attractive as secondaries. I don't like this.
Manaflow Band: Interesting... oh god Ryze is going to love this one!
Presence of Mind: Hey, cool! A reason to use PoM on someone besides Kassadin!
Legend: Tenacity: This was always my choice whenever I went Precision primary anyway, I'm down for a buff, thanks!
Cut Down: Hm. I don't see this making much difference.
Zombie Ward: Not a bad way to fix this. It was DEFINITELY broken before, and now I have a reason to maybe take Eyeball Collection... please buff Ghost Poro. (Lingering vision of champions that step on them would be nice.)
Approach Velocity: Alrighty, still probably won't use it, but cool.
Absolute Focus: Ok.
MINIONS
Hey now this is something I'm interested in seeing the impact of. Holy moly what an exciting change!
CREST OF CINDERS
A step in the right direction. Thank you rito!
ATTACK MOVE ON CURSOR
I don't use attack move unless I'm splitting and watching my team or walking blind into a bush but cool I guess.
VOICE CHAT
Whatever I didn't even read this section.
BUGFIXES
...
And that's it! Hopefully you made it this far! Do you agree? Disagree? With what and for what reason? Let's hear it folks!
