I hate building Zhonyas against an AD mid laner and here's why

Zhonyas are 3500 D-Cap are 3800

We all know how slow it is when it comes to building Zhonyas and D-Cap.

Most mages are mana hungry and need to build mana items to be in lane more. If I start building zhonyas FIRST, it will take me a long while to complete it and not only that, I wouldn't be doing as much damage as to what Talon/Zed Etc can do to me. Before I know it, going all in will leave him with half health and me with less than half of mana.

It's so stupid.

A streamer said why can't you just F**ing combine D cap and Zhonyas and make it 4000G so that we can sustain and deal damage.

Another issue is that Riot removed all CD's that mages can obtain so that's a plus to the problem. It leaves mages wide open for a good 3 seconds.

your the reason why i hate ap mage mains. so greedy and never satisfied. if they combine zhonyas and d cap im never playing thi sgame again. you have the best itemization in this game and u still ask for more. stop whining. playing vs leblanc or lulu causes us to build hexdrinker which we dont want to build, but we dont complain because we arent children.

He drinker provides Mr and damage. It is a counter build item which is part of why ad users possess excellent itemization.

Hexdrinker sucks? It completely negates most AP ultimates that are thrown at you when you're at a certain threshold of held. It's final item was also massively buffed. And the best part? The components to BUILD Hexdrinker are all cheap. You don't have to make any big purchases to keep the item coming, even if you're behind.

They have the item on dominion. Wooglet's witchcap. It gives 25% bonus ap instead, and if I'm not wrong the stasis is shorter.

But primary damage and defensive itme being combined oftentimes is a horrible idea. That's why Zhonya's Ring isn't a think anymore. Because, well, you know, Zhonya's Ring WAS DCAP AND ZHONYA'S COMBINED.

yep but its a small map (crystal scar and twisted treeline) with almost no late game, do u imagine a mage that have to build item 3089 and item 3157 in a dominion game? thats without any mana regen or cdr?

sorry but what? AP is far from being "the best itemization" it's more of an overpriced mess, AD has the far better itemization nowadays and Hexdrinker doesn't cost anywhere near the amount of Zhonya's AND it builds into a pretty darn good item. You not wanting to build it is your problem and not theirs. You don't even need to build it against a lulu. Kinda funny how you say "we don't complain because we aren't children" and yet here you are complaining about something

Bro... 1300 gold 20 ad, 35 mr, mage negating passive.

1200 gold 20 ap, 25 armor, passive that gives an extra 15 armor and AP for a total of 35 ap and 40 armor over the next 30 minion kills.

I dunno about you, but I'd much rather have an ad negating passive than some extra stats.

If you don't want to itemize agaisnt your lane opponent, then build straight damage and kill them before they can kill you so they are the ones who have to itemize agaisnt you.

Learn to itemize agaisnt your enemies isntead of assuming you don't have to and you will see your Ranking increase on its own.

Firstly, building Zhonyas and Deathcap is only "slow" if you're terrible at farming. Yeah, takes a while to fully complete them, but you do realize that these are amazingly powerful items right? It SHOULD take time to complete them. It's just like if an ADC were to rush Triforce. Any of the big power items are expensive, this doesn't just apply for mages.

Secondly, I seriously doubt that a Talon or Zed rushing Hexdrinker will be doing more damage than a mage rushing Zhonyas. NLR on its own gives 60 AP, while a full Hexdrinker only gives 20 AD. They get a shield, yes, but you still wind up with more AP than they have AD. Smart trading and poking will make it easier to burst them through the shield, and you might even force it to proc sooner than they would like.

Lastly, 90% of mages were never meant to be sustained damage characters. That role belongs to ADCs. Mages are primarily designed around burst, unleashing all their spells at once to do maximum damage in a short time. Being gated by cooldowns helps keep mages balanced. Remember URF? That's what it would be like all the time if mages had as much sustained damage as ADCs. Mages need those periods of vulnerability to make up for the huge AOE damage they can put out. While I do agree that the lack of decent CDR items for mages is something of a problem, I don't think it's wise to allow easy access to such power for all mages all the time.

Then... don't build it first?

Build your first item depending on how the lane goes. If you're winning, build that mana item to keep pumping out spells. If you fall behind, build zhonyas. Yes, you lose out on other, more useful offensive stats if you build a defensive item.

That's what happens when you build a defensive item. Want damage? Rush a damage item. Want more spells? Rush a mana item. Want to not take as much damage? Rush a defensive item. You can't have everything, you know, and complaining that you can't have everything in one item is just plain ridiculous.

Or you can make smart purchases and just get a mana regen component, item 3028 , item 3114 or item 1056 x2 and then go into Zhonya's. By the way, DCap's and Zhonya's were originally one complete item. Zhonya's Ring. It was disassembled because it proved to be too good of an item.

Others have said it, but Zhonya's in pretty much the best active in the game. I might argue it's the best single item in the game. Armor is almost always useful (they almost always have an adc), it has damage, and that active is useful EVERY GAME.

Yeah. Rush Zhonya's.

There are lane counters in this game. Learn to cope.
