Hating on Riven is a meme at this point, it'll never go away no matter what her state of balance is. Riven herself is fine, though. She's a champion in a good place who shifts a bit when the meta shifts, and has a lot more "levers of balance" built in to her than most champions, she's actually fairly easy to keep in line.

There will always be an anti-Riven circle jerk, and that has nothing to do with her, and everything to do with the boards.

Abilities that aren't gated by mana ought to be gated by cooldowns a bit more, especially with the amount of utility, not to mention damage, hers give

I believe that is exactly what Riot said when they implemented Garen and first introduced manaless champions.

Then why Yasuo, Lee Sin, etc, who even if they have a resource it either requires no management and helps them (like flow) or is contantly replenished after using an ability and autoattacking on a melee champ with gap closers? just wondering, not raging or anything and obv you didn't design the champs.

Nilok1 votes

Yasuo has no costs, flow is just a shield. I don't remember off the top of my head for Lee Sin. I think it was meant to limit him in fights, but stay mostly the same in the lane.

That's what i'm saying: Yasuo has barely any cds and instead of making him pay resource for abilities they give him a "resource" that is just bonus shield all the time, not to mention being a double passive with something that riot decided to implement into urf mode... Lee Sin's passive gives him 15 energy on hit a few second after using an ability. since they all cost 50/30 energy, lee sin can always use second ability while fighting and still has energy regen, not hard to get abilities back. Then they also have very small cd. Just saying that is what i meant.

Yasuo is a much newer champion, past when Riot was adhering to the guidelines they set for resourceless champions.

Lee Sin was more of a way to reward you from Comboing you AAs, as I believe his costs were higher whem he was released and could run out of energy much more, though don't quote me on that. He was also a highly requested champion since he was part of the original lineup, but was scrapped.

kk thanks man. I still don't see how it was justified and they aren't game breakingly op, just very annoying. What I hate most is that Lee Sin has never been bad, for seasons on end. Yasuo is just... like you said, a new champ. mechanics like wind wall and double crit, arbitrary shield and armor pen on an already great ult, low cooldowns etc, mostly i guess i feel like both kits are overloaded is all.

Riven isn't Underpowered at all and she most certainly is NOT Overpowered. She's easy to beat and counter pick. Any tank beats her. People just whine about her because they will pick an all damage no tank person to go top with. (Xin, Fiora, Yi, Gangplank, Jayce, Kayle and ect..) and get destroyed. Seriously play Malphite or Shen or any tank and you will destroy her.

so what oyu are saying that the only way to win vs riven is to counterpick her otherwise you have 0 chances and that counterpicking riven is 100% guaranteed way to destroy her

thats a problem you listed here counterpick means you have it easier ... not that you auto win

Fatalitý3 votes

Actually I said she's easy to counter pick AND beat. If you know she can 1v1 you then don't fight her just sit there and farm until you can actually beat her and if you still can't beat her call your jungle to help and if you can't beat her after farming for a while and your jungler can't help you, that means you fed her hard (which is your problem for feeding her) or she counter picked you by playing Riven against a champ she beats. Winning in lane doesn't always mean you get fed, it also means you out farmed them and got there tower first.

I already gave statistics that PROVE that riven is slightly underpowered, I dont see any reason why this discussion comes up again. Its just a meme to cry about her, and some salty silver guys actually really believe she is too strong because they got wrecked a few times from her. Just stop guys, dont want to repost things 20x.

Statistics ? Statistics prove nothing since there is no statistical value that can describe ballance of a champion

you can compare winrates damage survivability downtimes etc etc ... and you still get left with no indicator of actual power

the only true indicative is how strong does it feel for player who plays it and player who plays againtst it ... and even those are vague

many people find themselves unable to defeat a riven and many people find it hard to win as riven

but we never hear of rivens who do just medicore ... not too opressive and not underwhelming

thats the same case as yasuo in my opinion ... thats why i consider it a problem

champion cant just be pushed out of some games and dominate others because of some factors and be left with no middle ground

Riven, like any melee carry, has a single issue: she either wins hard or gets dumpstered. There is no in-between. Yasuo and Tryndamere are also both good examples of this. It just comes with the class.

Knight SoIaire 1 votes

but that isnt something we should just ear with ... thats their problem that should be fixed

Sachabot1 votes

Well, how would you fix it?

Lugg1 votes

The problem is that she is very binary like Yasou. too OP in some comps, too UP in others.

Beoridas1 votes

im ok with riven overall. i dont think she should attack reset however and should have some power added for the removal of that. (if she happens to be weak as a result)
