What differentiates Teemo top and Vayne top?

except for the fact that one deals magic damage and the other deals physical/true damage. Teemo has more burst with full ap build. But if we just compare on-hit bruiser build on both champions here. I'm wondering what makes Teemo top somewhat a thing (although not widely liked but at least not entirely off meta) while Vayne top is completely off meta. Teemo is hard to gank with mushrooms, that's for sure, but he doesn't have knockback/stun and mobility of Vayne. So their survivability is not too far away from each other while Vayne is better before lv6. Vayne is better at Tank killing while tanks make a huge part of top lane. Blind is good but it doesn't work against a lot of champions who doesn't rely on AA.

Is it because Teemo has better early game damage so that he is more efficient at harassing? Is this the only reason?

Basically. Teemo has much better instant harass. At level 1 his basic attacks do ~50 extra magic damage over the duration, and he can refresh them whenever he wants. Vayne either has to trade a mobility skill for some extra damage (which is getting nerfed soon) or get 3 hits to do the same damage he'd do over the same attack duration. Teemo's build choices also make him much tankier than Vayne while still being able to duel any other top laner. Also people really underestimate the free attack speed steroid he gets from his passive.

Nothing.

They are both garbage picks, taken by gullible wannabe-pros, who think they counter Nasus, and then complain on boards that the Doge is op :D

Teemo top is a thing for several reasons.

  • He can split push earlier and better through his shrooms
  • Better wave clear
  • He can isolate that side of the map through shrooms
  • He can change his build to the matchup - On-hit teemo, AP teemo, or AD teemo. Even hybrid teemo is fine. I think for awhile on-hit was considered the best build path but with changes to frozen mallet I think his optimal path has changed.

Vayne can't really do the same things and is more vulnerable earlier than teemo. Her wave clear is garbage until she gets item 3087.

Vayne top is sometimes played in lower elo, silver and bronze. By gold most players know how to shut down a top vayne and the jungler and top laner just kill her repeatedly.

Teemo sucks and vayne doesn't.
