Hi. There is 4 source of gold in the game : top, mid, bot lanes and the jungle. And there is 5 champions. The support is the player who will accept to not have extra gold from the CS and will rather protect the marksman (adc) on the bot lane. Support champions are those with a good scaling even without gold and good abilities for a duo lane. Leona is one of those. The meta is :

Top : bruiser, tank (because they are alone in a long lane they need resistance) Mid : ability power carry (apc) Bot : ranged Attack damage carry (adc) + support Jungle : Allrounders with affinity with farming monsters.

This way in late teamfight you have all you need and both carries are in relatively safe positions during early phase.

I hope it's a big more clear for you.

Edit: Why is this guy downvoted ? He have a message on his screen saying to "try y" obviously he is completely new to the game, his questions are legit lol...

edit 2 : Items that gives gold : item 3302 item 3301 item 3303 , gives wards item 2049 and grant power to allies item 3504 item 3110 item 3222 item 3050 item 3105 are typicaly good items for supports

I'm guessing that I'm being downvoted because I didn't adhere to the metagame.

I don't really care about downvotes anyway.

Okay, you really need help or at least your teams do. So to try give you some idea of what you are supposed to do in this game, watch these two:

How to Win (on Summoner's Rift) Gen Explains the Meta - League of Legends

A few of the specifics are out of date, like the buff Exalted with Baron Nashor, no longer exists, but the fundamentals are still true and relevant and what you need to learn. This will help you play the game and will answer your questions like "What's wrong with playing erratically?"

Supports play with the mindset of helping their teammates shine and stay alive as opposed to collecting the glory themselves. Supports understand that their kit does already a lot on its own, and as such they can afford to let their teammates get the farm and (if possible) the kills. They also tend to buy team oriented items item 3050 item 3222 item 3190 item 3060 etc, to help as needed, as opposed to building items with their own damage in mind (also, they typically have low scaling on their damage anyway).

Back in the days, the support was pretty much the sole responsible for vision and vision denial on the team, this is no longer true; however, while the ward bitch mentality has been effectively killed by Riot in pre-season 4, supports are still the one who invest the most in the vision game with item 2049 and item 3364 .

The support role is the role of the selfless guy; you are to do whatever is needed to assist your team in victory. Take a Caitlyn ult? Do it. Die for an ace? Do it. Let the ADC farm? Do it. etc.

Breaking the meta is fine.

Not knowing the meta is the problem.

When you pick certain champs, your team will assume where you are going and what you'll be building just from your champion pick alone. If you know the meta, you can identify what assumptions your team will make, and dispel them in the chat of champion select. For example, if you pick Leona, people will expect you to play like a support and build support and tank items. If you want to do something else like go top lane or build a hydra, that's fine, just be sure that you clearly stated what you're doing so your team isn't confused as to why the person they thought was supporting is now on the opposite side of the map with a Doran's Blade.

Don't get me wrong, people will probably still bitch and complain that a Leona is building AD and taking up top lane, but you're not at fault if you declare your intent with her beforehand. Say something like "Going Leo top" in champ select. Or say "Top" to call the role quickly, then say "Gonna play AD Leo".
