CertainlyT's title is Champion Update Designer?

Does this mean he will no longer make new champions in the future?

That would honestly make me pretty sad. CT's champions have always been the most original and had the most cool and compelling kits, regardless of their power level on release.

His champions are very fun to play, he just forgets to add counterplay to their kits.

Yasuo Counterplay: Lead away from minions to negate his mobility, play a resourceless champion in the lane phase to counter his regenerating shield without wasting your mana, use items, mobility, or movement to avoid his telegraphed knockup, etc. The reason why he has armor pen built into his kit is because there's so many ways for him to not be able to be in a position to properly hurt you...

Zed Counterplay: item 3157 item 3140 Mobility spells right before he lands, dodging his shurikens which are a huge percentage of his ultimate's damage against foes with even mediocre armor (if you have none then you have no right to complain about his E->Autoattack damage), having a teammate nearby with a bit of CC to lock him down before he can jump back, using your own untargetability...

Darius Health stacking heavily counters true damage, using mobility spells as he is pulling you (since his pull no longer gets you if you move out of it before it completes casting) Morello's to reduce his heal, or use Ignite as his Q is about to finish casting (Ignite will reduce his healing for AT LEAST two Q's). Also, with the new delay on his Q, he has lost a huge amount of DPS in trades. Add that on top of the fact that he lost his attack speed slow, he is now a mediocre early game duelist. Irelia is now a more than viable pick against the new Darius.

Gee, I didn't think I'd end up making a post this long, but I'm always surprised how terrible people are at this game in this subforum because I usually spend my time in General Discussion where even the shitposters and spammers are at least half-decent at the game and know better than to ride the "CertainlyT makes OP champs" bandwagon. Grow up. If you refuse, then at least practice.

"I'm always surprised how terrible people are at this game" - I wouldn't make such a cocky assumption, seeing as you're unranked and I'm high plat. Not only that, but you mostly play Zed so you're highly biased. Also, "play a resourceless champion", what kind of counterplay is that lmao? You can't turn a champion with mana into a resourceless one, no matter how hard you try. You're basically telling me champions with resources will always be at a disadvantage, SOMETHING THAT IS OUT OF YOUR CONTROL PUTS YOU AT A DISADVANTAGE. That's terrible game design. Grow up kid, stop fanboying over Zed.

You are spamming the strongest solo Q champion in the game and you are still not diamond after 150+ games, rofl. Ahri is OP, if anyone is biased, it is you.

Ionian3 votes

Ahri is so op that she's always banned right? Oh wait, 4% ban rate? rofl

You'd be surprised just how many plat players are shitty one-trick ponies instead of legit geniuses and masters of the game. It's not that hard to actually grind your way to high ranking--especially if you have someone boost your ranking.

Not only that, but you mostly play Zed so you're highly biased.

You don't play Zed, and that makes you equally biased.

It wasn't the only suggestion he gave, dipshit. If the only counter-play he suggested was picking manaless champions, then yeah it would be lame advice. But there was a whole collection of different suggestions, and you decide to just take one of them, pretend it invalidates everything he said, and essentially make yourself a bigger bellend than your own.

More unranked trash telling me how to gain elo? If plat is so easy, why aren't you there? Probably because you spend your day playing bot games lmfao. I do play Zed, I have played him many times. In fact, I most likely have played Zed more than you. Keep making assumptions. And let's see his other suggestions. "Use mobility spells" Yeah every champion has those lel. "Use morello" Yeah really good on my AD top laner. "Darius has no attack speed slow so he sucks!" Because every top laner cares about attack speed so much Rumble Riven Hecarim Garen etc. His ONLY valid suggestions are dodging Yasuo Q3 and buying qss/zhonya, things that are obvious and everyone does. Those are not the problems with their kits. The problem is Yasuo is press R to win, with the right team comp. Zed has stupid poke range with WQ in lane and a blink from level 2. And an ult that makes him untargetable. But, what do I know, I'm just a noob and you're the bot game Mordekaiser god.

Yeah, shit happens when you spend the first half of a year with shitty wifi, and then the second half of the year moving furniture for everyone you know.

I play mostly bot games lately because of win of the day IP bonuses. Otherwise I'd fall behind on champion releases.

I do play Zed, I have played him many times. In fact, I most likely have played Zed more than you. Keep making assumptions.

Keep in mind that match history only goes back to sometime during Season 4.

Not all the way back to before Preseason 1.

So you know very little of my actual match history. Dipshit.

Oh, look, not every suggestion applies to every champion.

It's almost like he's giving multiple suggestions, so you can use different strategies at different times. Dipshit.

Funny, because I have quite literally never had a problem with PvP Zed or Yasuo. Maybe I'm just lucky.

But, what do I know, I'm just a noob and you're the bot game Mordekaiser god.

You know jack shit about me, that's certainly enough. Note that I didn't actually call you a boosted Plat, I just said it's not hard. I was stating that throwing your rank is not a valid argument.

The fact that you got defensive about it and started flinging shit at me leads me to believe that either you're really fucking bad at reading English, or you might actually be boosted. Either way, I don't actually give a damn for your opinion, seeing you have enough attention span for tunnel vision and shit-flinging, neither being actually useful personality traits.

Nobody cares about excuses you've come up with for your match history.

"Oh, look, not every suggestion applies to every champion."

THATS MY POINT

You have to pick champions specifically designed to destroy Yasuo/Zed/etc. because their kits are so overloaded that they have an advantage vs pretty much everything. No mana costs, blinks, infinite dashes, regenerating shields, bonus ad, a wall that blocks all projectiles, all that with the skillfloor of Garen.

Your stupidity truly has no limits. But my patience does. Bye.

Typical tunnel-vision dumbass. Takes one look at something and instantly forms an opinion that they won't change, regardless what anyone says.

That's funny. I didn't know Brand was one of the champions that specifically destroys Yasuo or Zed.

Here's the thing. I've never had to actually counter-pick to play against Yasuo or Zed, all I had to do was play smarter than them.

Again, maybe I'm lucky. Or maybe you're a dipshit.

Your stupidity truly has no limits. But my patience does. Bye.

Your attention span has two-syllable limit as well, so I'm not surprised you've gotten bored foisting your superiority complex on someone who doesn't fall for your façade of intellect. Enjoy the rest of your ignorant life.

You just got told off by multiple people that know the game better than you, and your main reactions are to shittalk them and leave.

You are depressing.

Yasuo has counterplay in lane but that is irrelevant. Unless you crush him completely, late game with the right comp he can be 2 items (that is 5000 gold) behind, it doesn't matter, all he has to do is press R.

JustMyBassCannon3 votes

Actually, Yasuo's problem is mid-game. If you kill him in the lane, but he has enough time to get two or three core items before everyone else gets to their late-game, he has enough of a power spike to carry him back into relevance. It's insane how well he bounces back, it's the exact opposite problem of feast or famine.

It's like if Nasus could get his power at level 9 instead of needing to farm for most of the game.

Honestly, I don't really find any fault with CertainlyT for making/reworking champions that end up as OP beasts. His job was and still is to make new things and make old things more interesting.

The thing called the balance team does exist, it is their job and not the designer's to balance out the damage ratios and base damages of the champion. Because if a designer says: Here's an awesome new mechanic but it has 300% AD scaling!

It's the balance team's job to reduce to a level where it's neither uber-weak or uber-dangerous (And if you're reading this Uberdanger, I'll give you a cookie) to the game's balance.

So far, I think his reworks and champs are not actually overpowered but the older champion base is in general too old-fashioned. They don't have enough mechanics to them, which makes them have a lot less variability in their kits to deal with the new champions/reworked champions.

And new Morde is actually a throwback to his original design, though a bit (Okay make that a lot) more AD-based than the original idea.

CertanilyT is awesome.

Xypherous designed more interesting champions without overloading them to shit and making playing against them hell.

kJs3 votes

CertainlyT is great with champion theme and lore but he's comparatively shit at balance! Don't tell me crap like "it's not his job to balance" because it is. When you make a champion you should be 100% liable to scrutiny by the balance team, yet the champions he creates are always OP as fuck. You also have to take into account that something like Yasuo's Windwall is difficult to balance in that you can't just nerf its ratios like other abilities in the game. The addition of a 100% nullifying ability in a double critting high mobility, high damage champion is a pretty bad idea. I'm sure there were plenty of better ideas to make Yasuo easier to balance and tweak like focussing more on his passive shield which is a numerical feature; therefore easier to balance. Granted that Yasuo's Windwall was and the first ability of its type, an ability that stops projectiles is new so I give CertainlyT the benefit of the doubt. His windwall needs to be nerfed in a way that it isn't completely useless but isn't stupidly strong either. The power lost from this windwall nerf can them be transferred to his other abilities if need be. Now, I don't mean to say that Yasuo is OP in all tiers of rank (not anymore) however Yasuo is OP in low MMR; then gradually dulls in effectiveness the higher the ladder you go because players begin to learn the intricacies of the champion. i.e. focussing him early because he's really squishy, or to play Malzahar or Elise lest you want him dancing around your minions easier, etc.

Decrit2 votes

I can see some reasoning on it: CertainlyT can do crazy stuff, with the risk of going a bit out of the champion place, but that can add a more characteristic power to old champions, that have the problem of having too much generalized power and strategy. Or at least: from the player point of view some champions might feel different from any other champion, but it does not from a strategic one. Think about Irelia, for example, where the single thing that gives is a power spike after trinity, or morst od the Marksmans.

If we look at all recent changes they all added something meaningful to a champion kit that can bring a player to play that champion even if the meta or the balance screws with it, because it still brings something unique to the party. A bit like dota, minus the extreme factor it has.

I believe Thresh was taken from a fan idea almost completely.
