So I still like Lucian, even after his nerfs I just enjoy the playstyle. Is Graves more of the same

I see Graves being picked more often over Lucian and the general consensus is he is the same just better, is this true?

So tl;dr: I think it's basically like you said, general consensus is that Graves is slightly better than Lucian atm. They are kind of similar, so if you like Lucian go ahead and give Graves a try if you want, but if you prefer Lucian, go ahead and stick with Lucian; a well played Lucian will beat a poorly played Graves any day.

Graves got buffed a few patches ago, and Lucian's been steadily nerfed; I think the difference is that Graves has larger powerspikes but Lucian is more stable throughout, nothing spectacular but nothing really bad either. I think Graves is much, much more bursty, but Lucian has better consistent damage just because of his passive, even after the nerfs; you can't bully as much in lane but it returns to normal after a few levels. Lucian has more mobility as well.

I do think Lucian was overnerfed (this is coming from someone who would often call for Lucian nerfs; to me though, the last one was a bit of overkill, they could have stopped at the ult cooldown nerf imo). Graves has been very powerful for a while, it's just Lucian was better, so Graves was never played; since Lucian got nerfed, Graves basically replaced him. I feel like Graves is actually going to get a small nerf, since he had kind of an abrupt spike in pick and win rate since the Lucian nerfs, but the larger issue I think is that both of them occupy too similar a niche. Still, in the pro games I've seen, Graves hasn't been that 100% pick/ban sort of deal that Lucian was, perhaps just because the meta right now seems to favor Sivir comps, but who knows.

ya graves is very similar. lucian before nerfs did the same damage as graves but from a safer distance. now lucian does a decent amount less than graves so the difference is noticeable. before, playing lucian was like graves 2.0 lol. but graves is a great champ really, you just kind of need a hard engage comp for him to really shine.
