Can I atleast play Promos against those in my own Elo?

Having a high MMR is great and all for gaining rank, you win more LP, lose less and overall it feels fair since I'm getting challenged more to play against people who are most likely better at this game than I am and if I lose im only hit with a minor penality for it.

In Promos however this is all thrown at the window. This is a set of games ment to test if I'm ready to go from silver to gold, to see if I'm better than those that are of similar rank as me. Finding out then that I'm STILL playing against people who are of a high skill level than me suddenly feels really discouraging. I'm asked to test my skill level against people several division above me just to see if I'm allowed to enter a rank that would still be lower than them and unlike when gaining LP. There is not softer punishment for losing a match. Three losses and you're done.

And I understand that some people can skip divisions with this but personally I'd rather go through that than have to do with this. It feels blatantly unfair and more like I'm just continuously running into a wall waiting for it to finally crumble over rather than a real test of skill to see if I'm ready to leave my current rank.

Your MMR is more indicative of your skill level than your rank is.

Because that would not be fair. The system evaluated you were worth XXXX MMR, so it puts you against XXXX MMR players, given that your mmr is way higher than it's supposed to be for your rank, you are winning way more lps than losing when you lose, and thus you end up being often in promos even if you maintain a 50% winrate at your current MMR. So you'll climb.

Putting you against lower players so you can crush them would make worse games.
